What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Setup Operator position at Rockford Specialties?
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Set up, change over, and operate assigned production equipment to support safe, timely, and high-quality production. Verify that products meet specifications, complete required quality checks, and maintain established production rates. This is a non-supervisory position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Set up and change over assigned production equipment, process steps, tooling, and workstations according to job requirements.
Operate assigned machinery and workstations after setup is complete.
Review work instructions, blueprints, samples, and job specifications before beginning production.
Verify that products meet specifications and complete required first-piece, in-process, and final quality signoffs.
Complete quality sheets, production records, and other required job documentation accurately.
Monitor part quality throughout the production run and report nonconforming material promptly.
Monitor assigned equipment output and production rates throughout the production cycle.
Make authorized machine adjustments to maintain product quality and production requirements.
Notify the supervisor of production delays, material shortages, equipment problems, or other conditions affecting workflow.
Keep tools and setup materials organized and report broken, damaged, or worn tooling for replacement.
Perform authorized routine preventive maintenance and assist maintenance personnel with equipment troubleshooting and repairs.
Follow lockout/tagout, machine guarding, personal protective equipment, and all other safety requirements.
Follow Company policies, work instructions, quality standards, and procedures applicable to the position.
Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Six months to one year of related machine setup, production, manufacturing, or technical experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, work instructions, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete routine production and quality documentation and communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic and work with fractions, decimals, proportions, percentages, measurements, angles, and production rates. Ability to use applicable measuring tools and interpret required dimensions and tolerances.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to identify routine production problems, make authorized adjustments, and request assistance when needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. The position requires standing and walking for more than two-thirds of the workday; frequent use of hands and arms; occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and regular talking and hearing.
LIFTING DEMANDS:
The position requires frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds, regular lifting of up to 25 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Lifting above 50 pounds is not normally required.
VISION:
Close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are required to inspect parts, read measurements, and safely set up and operate equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and may occasionally be exposed to elevated work areas, fumes or airborne particles, electrical hazards, or vibration. Required personal protective equipment and all safety procedures must be followed.
NOISE LEVEL:
The noise level is typically loud. Hearing protection may be required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Experience with wire cutting, trimming, wire bending, resistance welding, stamping, press brake operations, and assembly is preferred.
