Associate Employment Attorney

Rocke Law Group, PLLC is seeking an associate employment attorney with approximately 2–5 years of employment law experience to join our growing Washington employment law practice.

This role is ideal for an attorney who wants meaningful responsibility, close mentorship, direct client contact, and the opportunity to become a trusted advisor to employers navigating workplace risk, employee disputes, compliance questions, and litigation.

About Rocke Law Group, PLLC

Rocke Law is a Seattle-based law firm primarily focused on employment law in Washington State. We advise and represent small and mid-sized employers, helping them prevent workplace noncompliance, manage employee disputes, and defend claims when they arise.

Our culture is grounded in professionalism, accountability, continuous learning, and client service. We invest in people who want to grow their expertise, judgment, and careers in employment law over the long term.

The Role

As an associate attorney, you will work with experienced employment attorneys on counseling, litigation, and workplace risk-mitigation strategy. You will take meaningful ownership of assigned matters while receiving guidance, feedback, and support as you develop your legal judgment and client-service skills.

What You Will Do

Advise Employers

  • Stay up to date on local, state, and federal employment laws and trends.
  • Provide practical guidance on policies, high-risk decisions, and best practices.
  • Help clients evaluate legal risk, business realities, and documentation needs before issues escalate.
  • Assist with handbook, policy, agreement, and compliance projects.

Support Litigation and Dispute Resolution

  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, settlement documents, and other litigation work product.
  • Analyze facts, documents, timelines, witnesses, damages, and legal theories.
  • Prepare for mediations, hearings, depositions, agency proceedings, and trial-related work.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, agencies, witnesses, and internal team members.

Own Your Work and Keep Matters Moving

  • Manage deadlines, assignments, and priorities with reliability and follow-through.
  • Anticipate issues, questions, and next steps.
  • Bring thoughtful recommendations, not just open-ended problems, to supervising attorneys.
  • Contribute to systems, templates, support staff training, and process improvements as the firm grows.

What We Are Looking For

The strongest candidates consistently demonstrate:

  • Ownership. You take responsibility for outcomes, follow through, and communicate clearly.
  • Judgment. You understand that good employment law advice requires legal analysis, practical business sense, and awareness of human dynamics.
  • Writing ability. You can explain complex legal issues clearly, concisely, and persuasively.
  • Curiosity and continuous learning. You welcome feedback, seek improvement, and want to become an expert in employment law.
  • Confident humility. You make recommendations, ask thoughtful questions, learn from others, and own mistakes.
  • Client-service mindset. You understand that clients need practical answers, responsiveness, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Composure under pressure. You can manage deadlines, competing priorities, and complex problem-solving without losing clarity or professionalism.

Qualifications

Required

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Washington State, or ability to become licensed promptly.
  • Approximately 2–5 years of civil litigation or employment law experience.
  • Strong legal research, analysis, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
  • Sound judgment, initiative, and willingness to take ownership of assigned matters.

Preferred

  • Experience advising employers on Washington employment law issues.
  • Experience with employment litigation, agency charges, wage and hour issues, leave and accommodation matters, investigations, or policy/handbook work.
  • Interest in working with small and mid-sized employers.
  • Interest in building a long-term career in a growing boutique employment law firm.

What Makes This Opportunity Different

  • Close mentorship. Work with experienced attorneys who care about developing your judgment, skill, and confidence. Attend biweekly professional development 1:1s with the managing partner to receive tailored advice and mentorship.
