Job Qualifications / Requirements
- L-5 certification or equivalent; degree in Special Education preferred; minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a special education teacher.
- Experience in program management preferred.
- Experience in PC operational skills, including strong skills with the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must be organized and demonstrate extreme attention to detail.
- Good interpersonal skills and willingness to provide outstanding customer service to work effectively with students, parents, leaders, and staff.
- Physical demands position requires significant walking, standing, and sitting; some kneeling and bending. Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling will not normally exceed thirty (30) pounds and will usually be ten (10) pounds

- Interacts in a professional manner with students, staff, and school/district leaders.
- Supports review/implementation of RCPS General Supervision System for implementing the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Supports a comprehensive child find the process to include implementation of prereferral interventions, special education evaluations, and IDEA eligibility determinations.
- Ensures that a student with a disability receives a free appropriate public education (FAPE) and has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) designed to meet federal/state requirements and improve outcomes.
- Collaborates with district and school leaders across divisions/departments to ensure that students with disabilities receive special education services as required by their IEPs.
- Evaluates and improves workflow processes among teachers, Lead Teachers of Compliance, counselors, principals, assistant superintendents, and others involved with special education programs. Actively assists with the staffing needs for special education programs, as appropriate.
- Directly supervises Lead Teachers of Compliance to ensure consistent implementation of RCPS General Supervision System in each school/district program and provide appropriate coaching supports.
- Provides leadership to support the implementation of both high-leverage practices in special education and evidence-based practices specific to content areas.
- Supports continuous improvement of specially designed instruction for students with disabilities.
- Builds infrastructure to support meaningful transition and post-school outcomes for students with disabilities.
- Collaborates with external state, regional, and local agencies to offer resources for teachers, families, and students.
- Provides professional learning for leaders, teachers (special education and regular education teachers), and families.
- Supports RCPS in developing/maintaining a world-class Learning Support program that addresses the diverse needs of families and students.
- Provides oversight of specific programs, contracts, and budgetary responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
- Actively participates in the district-wide implementation of initiatives such as Focus Walks and district strategic plan activities to address the needs of students with disabilities and their families.
- Participates in professional meetings, educational conferences, and staff development opportunities.
- Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, or any criminal activity for which the employee becomes aware.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
