What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications and Marketing Assistant position at Rock Valley College?
- Collaborate and collectively work together with other individuals in the Communications & Marketing Department to produce content that includes but is not limited to digital and print design collateral, photo/video projects, copywriting and proofreading for marketing emails and projects, etc.
- Assist with various short and long-term projects/tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Apply prescribed brand standards at a high-quality level to support and reinforce the RVC brand.
- Use design and marketing knowledge to determine the best approach for projects, including format, approach, and content, which will most effectively meet objectives and remain within budget restrictions.
- Assist with the updates of the website, Intranet, and other communication tools, following best practices in digital accessibility.
- Prioritize and maintain projects using the department’s project management platform to track projects and meet deadlines
- Assist the executive director with department invoicing and expenses, including creating and maintaining requisitions and purchase orders.
- Assist in the planning and execution of Communications & Marketing meetings and events.
- Maintain department inventory of swag, office supply items, and marketing event lending library resources.
- Continually advance creative and technical design skills to stay up-to-date in the communications and marketing industry.
- Be a cross-trained member of the team.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Associate's degree in graphic arts, marketing, public relations, media production or related field, and/or equivalent experience, Bachelor’s preferred.
- Seven months to one year of relevant experience in content creation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Adobe programs, Canva, and other content creation software and apps.
- Demonstrated experience in the field of digital photography.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing jobs/assets for digital and print
- Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills and team-oriented.
- Self-motivated and able to execute high-quality work under tight deadlines with minimal oversight.

Job Summary
This cross-trained communications and marketing position is responsible for making a variety of content, including, but not limited to, digital and print design collateral, marketing emails, and photo/video projects. A successful candidate must be able to produce high-quality content that embodies and embraces diversity while maintaining college brand standards. In addition, this position provides some administrative support for the Communications & Marketing Department.
