What are the responsibilities and job description for the Photo Booth Technician (urgently hiring 2) position at Rock the Booth LLC?
Hello! My name is Alex and I'm the owner of Rock the Booth. This job description is pretty long so I made a video to accompany it:
https://youtu.be/Ow0FShQUcHs
I am looking for 2 more photo booth technicians to join my Holland team. If you are available, your first event would be on May 15th.
As far as jobs go, this one can be pretty fun! You get to work at weddings, college events, homecomings, company holiday parties, grad parties, etc. After I train you, you'll be working independently. You'll pick up the booth, transport it to the venue in your personal vehicle, and set up the booth. Then during the event, you'll be there to interact with guests and to ensure everything is running smoothly. The beginning of events is usually very slow, most events have an idle hour too where we are temporarily closed, so you'll have free time to be on your laptop at the table next to the booth. You can monitor the quality of the photos and can reprint photo strips from your laptop so if you have one it makes things easier but it's not required as you can do everything from the booth itself. The booth is automated so most times you just need to let people know they can step on up and just have to touch the screen to start. You basically get paid to go to parties and eat free food lol, it's great. Here's a detailed description of the job:
PAY:
- $20/hour.
- Occasional tips (usually of $50-$100, I've been tipped $200 before).
- Free food (plates can be a $50-$100 value).
- Free time to be on your laptop (more on this below).
HOURS:
- This is a part-time position that is perfect for someone who is looking for weekend work to supplement their income from their main job, or college students who are looking for a flexible schedule that allows for time to study on the job.
- Make your own schedule- you can pick which events you want to work, no quota, unlimited time off.
- You'll have an account on our booking/scheduling system where you can see future events and can offer to work them.
- After you offer to work an event, I will officially schedule you and you'll get a notification.
- You'll receive notifications when new events are booked too.
- All of the information you need about the event is in the booking system, such as the address, drive time, which booth to grab, which extras to grab, details on where to set up/park, and a detailed timeline from when to get to our location to when you'd be leaving. I'll use this to calculate your hours so there's no clocking in/out.
- Shifts are on average 7 hours long.
- Events are mainly on the weekends, primarily on Saturdays.
- We service around 200 events every year, however that includes our main location in Novi. This Holland location is relatively new, so there won't be many events at first. We had 2 events last week!
JOB DUTIES:
Training:
- I'll show you how to set up the booth on a day when there is not an event so there's no time pressure.
- You can take the booth home so you can get familiar with it on your own time.
- I created a detailed guide with pictures that has everything you need to know, including how to navigate our booking system, how to set up the booth hardware/software, and common troubleshooting techniques.
Before the booth opens:
- After you're trained, you'll be working independently.
- You'll see all the event details in your account, this will tell you what time you have to be at our location, what to grab, where to go, etc.
- All of the equipment fits on a collapsible cart.
- You'll load the equipment into your car, drive to the event, park, find your spot, bring in the equipment, and set up the booth.
- Set up is easy, only takes about 30 mins once you get the hang of it (not counting the ~15 mins it takes to find your spot and bring in the equipment). I give you 1.5 hours so you have plenty of time in case there's traffic, trouble finding your spot, or any technical issues.
- Again there are instructions you can refer to if needed, but after setting up a few times you won't need them, the whole setup is pretty intuitive.
- I can talk you through anything over the phone, I recommend bringing headphones for hands-free calls.
- I can take remote control of the booth if needed.
During the Event:
- Once it's set up, the booth is 100% self-run.
- Guests just touch the screen to start, enter their email if they want digital copies, the booth takes a few pictures, then it asks how many copies they want printed.
- The most important thing you need to do is ensure high quality photos are being printed.
- Other than ensuring the booth is working as expected, your main responsibility is to interact with the guests to ensure they are having a smooth experience.
- Most guests jump right into using the booth without even realizing you're there, others just need a smile and a hand gesture to know it's okay to use, and some people like to know a little more about how it works first.
- The simplest thing you can say is "As soon as you're ready you can step on up and touch the screen to begin."
- Here's the longest explanation that covers everything they need to know, I usually don't say all this unless someone is asking how everything works: "The booth will take 4 photos, you'll see yourself during the 3 second countdown, then after it takes a picture you can choose if you want to keep or redo it. After all your pictures are taken you can select how many copies you want printed, and you can optionally enter your email if you would like to receive a digital copy as well. As soon as you're ready you can step on up and touch the screen to begin!"
- Instead of dumping all that info one someone you can also just stand by the booth and walk them through it one step at a time, I especially do this for grandparents and kids.
- The booth has instructions on the start screen so if you need to run to the bathroom you can do so and people will be able to figure it out on their own.
- You can also tilt the booth up/down if needed, and can zoom out if there's a big group.
- There will be a table next to the booth for you to sit during downtime, I have a strict no phone policy because it looks unprofessional but you can be on your laptop/tablet if you have one. You can monitor the photos from your laptop/tablet and can reprint extra copies if needed, otherwise you can reprint from the booth itself and can monitor the qualify from the booth/prints.
- There is a lot of downtime in the beginning when guests are getting settled. It usually doesn't get busy until after dinner for weddings. Grad parties are usually pretty chill the whole time, school dances/homecomings/proms usually have a constant line. Many events have an idle hour during dinner where the booth is temporarily closed.
- 15 mins before you are supposed to close you can jump in the back of the line to tell people who are trying to jump in line that you're closed.
After the booth closes:
- You can drop the booth back off the night of, or the next day if you'd like.
- You will be paid the following Monday, I'll have you connect your bank account to Stripe.
- This job is a great resume booster since you'll gain experience working independently, working with technology, and working with people!
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Entry-level position (I'll teach you everything you need to know)
- Reliable vehicle (the booth can fit in any sized car)
- Weekend availability (Friday-Sunday)
- Personable
- Professional
- Independent
Nice to have:
- Laptop/tablet
- Weekday availability (if you have the option to get your main job covered with a 2 week notice then that would be great!)
- Availability on May 15th.
VIDEO SUBMISSION (required):
- I'm mainly looking for is someone who is well-spoken, friendly, confident, competent, and professional. I believe the best way to find this person is by seeing them speak, not reading their resume. This is why I am only considering candidates who submit a video.
- Your goal in this video is to simply tell me about yourself and why you'd be a good fit for this position.
- Feel free to take it from your phone for simplicity and from your car for privacy.
- This video is designed to be laid back and open ended, feel free to make it as long or as short as you'd like.
- Please mention what your general schedule/availability is, whether you are available on May 15th, what your car situation is, and whether you have a laptop/tablet. Other things to talk about are your education, past jobs, most/least favorite job, hobbies, drive time to our location, etc.
- Then email it to alex(AT)rockthebooth.com from your personal email. Replace (AT) with the "at" symbol...really doesn't allow me to include emails addresses here.
- If the video is too large to attach to an email then you can upload it to Google Drive or Dropbox or similar and send me the link. You can easily find how to do this online if needed.
- I know this is asking a lot but it decreases your competition because most people are too lazy to do this lol, so this also is a good way for me to weed those people out. I'm looking for driven individuals who are willing to go the extra mile for an awesome job opportunity like this.
- After you email me your video, I will let you know if you are moving onto the next round which will be 1 video call with me over Google Meet. After I have conducted all of the live video interviews I will be making my decision.
URGENT HIRING:
- I have 2 events in Holland on May 15th.
- I would ideally like to hire someone by May 8th.
