Role Description: As a Head Coach/Personal Trainer, you will lead and oversee non-contact, boxing-based fitness classes for people living with Parkinson’s disease at our Headquarters Gym in Indianapolis, IN. This part-time, on-site role includes planning and delivering safe, engaging workouts tailored to varying abilities, demonstrating proper technique, and providing modifications as needed. You will perform participant assessments, track progress, and collaborate with the team to adjust training plans based on functional levels and medical considerations. Daily responsibilities include setting up and breaking down equipment, maintaining a clean and organized training space, and ensuring adherence to safety and program standards. You will also build strong, encouraging relationships with participants and caregivers, communicate schedules and updates, and support outreach activities that promote the program in the local community. On top of the coaching responsibilities, there is also an opportunity to take on clients 1-on-1 and in small groups. This is separate from teaching classes and is an additional commission-based part of the head coach role.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in fitness training, such as personal training, group exercise instruction, or athletic coaching, with the ability to design and deliver safe, effective workouts.
- Experience working with older adults, individuals with neurological conditions, or special populations, and comfort adapting exercises for different mobility and fitness levels.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, encourage, and lead groups, fostering an inclusive, supportive, and energetic class environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including active listening, clear instruction, and professional, empathetic interaction with participants and caregivers.
- Strong observational and problem-solving skills to monitor form, identify risks, and adjust exercises to maintain safety and effectiveness.
- Organizational skills to manage class schedules, maintain attendance and progress records, and keep the training area prepared and orderly.
- CPR/AED and basic first aid certification (or willingness to obtain before start date).
- Preferred: Certification in personal training, group fitness, or related field (e.g., ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA) and/or background in kinesiology, exercise science, or physical education.
- Ability to lift and move equipment, stand for extended periods, and physically demonstrate exercises as needed.
