Position Overview:


The LiDAR Drone Pilot and Hardware Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, accuracy, and performance of ROCK Robotic’s LiDAR systems through testing, calibration, inspection, and QA/QC. This role primarily focuses on hardware evaluation and calibration across drone-based, SLAM-based, and mobile-based LiDAR systems. The candidate will be the hardware product owner who conducts rigorous system testing, troubleshoots hardware issues, and ensures that ROCK’s LiDAR solutions meet high-performance standards before deployment. 


While the primary focus is on hardware testing and QA/QC, this role will also include limited customer support responsibilities such as assisting the Support Team with customer inquiries and technical training as needed. This position is located in Denver, Colorado where you will work a majority of the time in a hands-on way with the local Team.

Responsibilities:
Hardware Testing, Calibration, and QA/QC
  • Perform extensive testing, calibration, and validation of ROCK’s LiDAR systems across different configurations (drone-based, SLAM, and mobile setups).
  • Conduct hardware inspections to verify build quality, sensor alignment, and system integrity.
  • Develop and execute QA/QC protocols to ensure hardware performance meets internal benchmarks.
  • Identify and document any hardware issues, working with engineering teams to resolve them before deployment.
  • Maintain records of inventory and assist in ensuring adequate stock and kitting.
LiDAR Research & Development
  • Test newly developed LiDAR workflows, hardware components, and integration methods.
  • Conduct experimental data collection and analysis to enhance system accuracy and reliability.
  • Provide feedback to the engineering team regarding potential hardware improvements.
  • Stay informed on industry advancements and emerging LiDAR technologies.
Qualifications and Requirements:


Required:

  • Part 107 certification
  • Experience in hardware troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in data validation and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to internal teams.


Preferred:

  • Knowledge of ROCK Robotic hardware, software, and ecosystem.
  • Experience with LiDAR data processing and analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with geospatial technologies and remote sensing applications.
  • Ability to create technical reports and research documentation.


Nice to have:

  • Experience with LiDAR hardware testing, calibration, and quality assurance.
  • Familiarity with drone-based, SLAM-based, and mobile LiDAR data collection methods.
  • Strong understanding of LiDAR hardware components, GNSS integration, and calibration techniques.
