We are looking for a professional with a friendly attitude and the ability to multitask to join our clinical rooming & nursing team at both our Whitewater and Johnson Creek location. Rock River Community Clinic is a non-profit community health center that serves low-income families in the greater Jefferson County area, including parts of Dodge and Walworth County. Clinic locations include Watertown, Whitewater, and Johnson Creek.

In this position, you will play a key role by interacting with our patients and handling medical/clerical tasks. An ideal candidate should be comfortable undertaking a variety of activities within a nonprofit clinical structure.

Essential Duties:

  • Rooms patients and reviews health history, addresses preventative maintenance issues and is knowledgeable of age specific growth and development as related to the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient as appropriate. Accurately collects and records data as appropriate at the patient contact and requirements of Uniform Data System and HRSA.
  • Possesses knowledge of tests and procedures as they relate to specific specialties. Recognizes significant values and works with the provider to notify patients of results and follow up activities in a timely manner as defined by clinic practice/policy.
  • Assists the provider with medical procedures and exams following Universal Protocol relating to the capabilities and age specific criteria of a neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, utilizing protective devices as needed to maintain integrity of medical treatment if necessary.
  • Administers medications as directed/ordered by the provider. Demonstrates and understands administration techniques. Recognizes the implications of dosages, interactions, side effects, adverse effects, routes of administration of drugs as they apply to individual patients.
  • Communicates and /or completes provider orders to outside sources (i.e. pharmacy, other clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, etc.) Also assists in the completion of various medical forms (i.e. RTW, school forms, DOT, workers compensation, consent forms, FMLA)
  • Screens phone calls, collect all pertinent data, and communicate this information to the provider. Will direct or implement appropriate care utilizing provider direction or preferences.
  • Performs laboratory testing covered by CLIA, performs venipuncture, prepares specimens for transport and complies with all quality measures. Ensures all nurse rendered services are captured and completion of ABN form as appropriate.
  • Assists with appointment scheduling of office visits/referrals/diagnostic testing/therapies/surgeries. Responsible for working with the pre-authorization department or insurance companies to initiate referrals and to obtain approvals, pre-certifications and prior authorization for medical care and treatment. Assists in completion of registration and departure process as necessary.
  • Assists patients and/or families to access financial resources, assists Social Services with guidance to those patients who may qualify for assistance through state, county, and federal programs. Is available to patients and families to answer questions regarding their insurance, give estimates of co-pay amounts, and to aid patients in obtaining prior authorizations for services, etc.
  • Maintains equipment in a clean and safe condition at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Completes department-specific orientation and annual competencies for this position.

Position Qualifications

Education/Learning Experience

Required: High School Diploma

Preferred: CMA course completion

Work Experience

Required: Working in healthcare for at least 3 years

Preferred: 1 year experience as a MA at a community health clinic.

Skills/Knowledge

Required: Completion of skills training for MA position duties. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Cognitive process to interpret office situations and respond appropriately; adaptable to change, receptive to training and ability to work alone as well as in a team setting.

Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

Licenses/Certifications

Required: BLS Certification

Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant Certification or Clinic Certified Medical Assistant Certification;     

Working Conditions

Must be able to work in close-quarters and fast paced physician office environments.

Machines, Equipment, Tools Used: Telephone, keyboard, computer, printer/copy/fax machine, scanner. Various laboratory equipment, EKG machine, blood pressure equipment, nebulizer and specialized medical equipment ( site specific).

Exposures: Possible exposure to blood, other body fluids or other potentially infectious materials. Possible exposure to communicable diseases or infections.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Gloves, masks, gowns, eye protection as necessary.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
