The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations while ensuring high-quality patient care, safety, and comfort in an acute care hospital setting. This position requires adherence to federal and state regulatory standards, hospital policies, and imaging protocols.
The technologist operates ultrasound equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines, prepares examination rooms, and ensures equipment functionality through preventive maintenance. Responsibilities include obtaining and accurately documenting patient medical histories, explaining procedures, answering patient questions, and communicating pertinent findings to physicians.
The role also involves assisting with patient scheduling and phone inquiries, maintaining department supplies, completing administrative documentation, and supporting infection control and radiologic safety practices. The Ultrasound Technologist must demonstrate strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and flexibility with scheduling.
- Active RDMS licensure (Required)
- 1–3 years of General Ultrasound experience required
- RVT licensure required within six (6) months of hire
- Knowledge of Federal and State regulatory agency standards related to health care organizations
- Cognitive and technical knowledge to manage care delivery across the continuum of care
- Ability to retrieve, communicate, and present data and information verbally and in writing
- Ability to express and exchange ideas clearly through verbal and written communication
- Flexible with work scheduling, including varying shifts as needed
- Ability to assist with patient phone calls, including answering technical questions, scheduling appointments, and providing pre-procedure preparation instructions
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform precise work
- Adherence to infection-control policies to protect patients and staff
- Knowledge of and ability to follow drug protocols, including response to adverse reactions (e.g., contrast media)
- Ability to explain ultrasound procedures to patients and address questions appropriately
- Commitment to patient care, comfort, and safety
- Ability to prepare ultrasound equipment and examination rooms for patient use
- Ability to operate ultrasound equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and regulatory standards
