Most staff live within a 30 minute drive of the practice and are able to commute without taking major highways. What will you be doing?
As we have recently expanded our reproductive services, we are looking to immediately fill the role of a weekend ambulatory assistant for our team of reproduction veterinarians. Ambulatory Assistants assist veterinarians during farm visits in a number of ways: handling horses, setting up veterinary equipment, managing truck inventory, preparing patients for procedures, and billing. This position is well suited for someone with a background working in large equine barn settings and/or experience assisting veterinarians. We are happy to provide training for the right person; someone who has exceptional horsemanship and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will have a background in reproductive services, enjoy working closely with veterinarians, and will have a passion for providing world class care for our patients and clients. We ask that you are dependable, responsible, and willing to work hard.
The schedule for this position is Saturdays and Sundays, for approximately 16 hours a week during the peak months of our breeding season, which ranges from March-September. Flexibility is necessary in order to accommodate staffing needs. This position is part-time and based in Oldwick, NJ.
Our part-time compensation package includes: hourly compensation starting at $19/hr, Paid Time Off, logo wear, and discounted veterinary products and services. Should the position become full-time, permanent other benefits will be applicable.

Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarian with ambulatory and hospital caseload, including, but not limited to, examining mares and stallions for breeding, new and sick foal appointments, general medicine ambulatory calls and emergencies. This would include handling mares, foals and some stallions, prepping for reproduction procedures, preparing & using diagnostic imaging equipment, etc.
- Assist veterinarian with transvaginal oocyte aspiration and subsequent lab work
- Stock and manage ambulatory inventory & equipment
- Manage daily schedule and appointments, including scheduling follow-ups and phone calls
- Operate ImproMed Equine software to track and maintain up-to-date client history, reports, appointments, and invoices
- Communicate effectively with clients
- Additional responsibilities as needed
Qualifications
- Excellent horse handling skills are mandatory, including handling of sedated horses, handling mares and foals, and ability to jog horses in hand
- An outstanding team attitude, work ethic, and desire to learn
- Education & work background in equine medicine & care a plus
- Good time management and multitasking skills
- Technologically proficient
- Excellent handling emergency situations
- Capable of heavy lifting, including hay bales, feed bags, and muck buckets
