What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gilder-Gold Leaf position at Rock House Farms (RHF)?
Summary Job Description
Seeking an experienced gilder with a developed skill for accuracy and speed when working with gold metal leaf. Individual would have a keen eye for sheen and texture as well as a highly trained hand in burnishing, applying tone, shellac, and lacquer. Must be flexible in their ability to provide an antique leafed look, as well as a contemporary clean finish on furniture.
Essential Duties
- Covers surfaces of furniture with metal leaf in a timely fashion
- Ability to use hands and tools to brush sizing on items according to design
- Picks up leaf with brush or tool, laying it over sizing
- Ability to press sheets of leaf onto sizing by hand
- Smooths leaf over surface, removing any excess as necessary
- Knowledge of using polished burnishing agate, cotton pad, or gloved hand to polish leaf or create worn metal finish
- May brush or spray protective lacquer coat over gilded surface
- Must follow all safety policies and procedures
- All other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
- Previous gold leaf experience a plus
