General Definition of Work
The job of the Receptionist is for the purpose of providing positive first impressions to visitors and callers of the District Office; responding to inquiries from staff, the public, etc. to provide requested information and/or referral to other parties; and providing general clerical support.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Rock Hill Schools. Rock Hill Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Answers multi-line telecommunication system for the purpose of screening calls, transferring calls, responding to inquiries and/or taking messages.
- Distributes mail, supplies, messages, keys, etc. for the purpose of disseminating materials to appropriate parties.
- Frequent interaction with parents, students, and staff in person, by phone, and by email.
- Manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional demeanor with a welcoming attitude and strong commitment to customer service.
- Knowledge of Rock Hill Schools Emergency Take Action Plans
- Evaluate situations (e.g. involving other staff, students, parents, the public, police, probation department, etc.) for the purpose of directing to the appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Greet the public, parents, students, vendors, etc. for the purpose of responding to their inquiries and/or directing them to appropriate personnel.
- Performs record keeping and a broad array of general and program specific clerical functions for the purpose of supporting assigned administrator and/or site with necessary materials.
- Processes documents and materials for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
- Responds to emergency calls for the purpose of notifying appropriate parties to address immediate safety issues.
- Responds to inquiries for school staff, the public, parents and/or students for the purpose of identifying appropriate parties to address immediate issues.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of school front-desk operations, visitor management, and attendance procedures.
- Familiarity with office equipment, phone systems, and student information software.
- Understanding of Emergency Take Action Plans, including fire, lockdown, evacuation, and medical procedures.
- Ability to follow emergency protocols, notify appropriate personnel, and guide students/visitors safely.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with students, parents, staff, and the public.
- Skilled in multitasking, scheduling, data entry, and maintaining accurate records.
- Ability to stay calm, organized, and professional during high-stress or emergency situations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and basic administrative technology.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to greet and assist visitors professionally.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Team-oriented with the ability to coordinate with staff and support safety drills and procedures.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred.
- Minimum of two years of clerical or administrative experience in a school or customer service setting (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Special Requirements
- Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
Physical Requirements/Work Conditions
- Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally required to sit.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, filing, and operating office equipment.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving of materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Visual acuity to read data, reports, and computer screens for prolonged periods.
- Hearing and speaking ability sufficient to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and during meetings.
- Mobility to move between workstations, offices, and athletic or school facilities as needed.
- Ability to bend, reach, and stoop in the performance of routine office tasks.
- Stamina to maintain focus and attention to detail while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit official transcripts, three professional references with at least one of three supervisory references and a copy of the appropriate credentials as part of the application process.
Pre-Onboarding Requirements
As a condition of employment and prior to onboarding, the district will conduct a criminal history background check. The recommended candidate will be required to provide personal information necessary to complete the background check such as date of birth, gender, and race to remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
