Position Summary

Since our opening in 1987, New Hope Treatment Centers has been a welcoming place for young people in moments of crisis. The Non-Certified Teacher position supports the implementation of individualized instruction and creates a therapeutic, safe, and engaging learning environment for students with diverse behavioral, emotional, and academic needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide direct care and therapeutic support to residents.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualized learning plans under the supervision of a state-certified teacher.
  • Gather and interpret academic and behavioral data to support instructional planning and student progress monitoring.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of a therapeutic, structured, and safe educational environment.
  • Assist with designing and delivering engaging, differentiated lesson plans aligned with student learning needs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment and education team meetings.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and within established timelines.

Relationship Building-Builds positive, respectful, and therapeutic relationships with students, families, and team members to foster trust and engagement.

Classroom Management & Safety- Maintains a structured, safe, and trauma-informed classroom environment that supports learning and emotional regulation.

Communication Skills: Communicates effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams.

Adaptability & Flexibility-Adjusts instructional approaches and responds effectively to changing student needs and classroom dynamics.

Team Collaboration-Works cooperatively with certified teachers, clinicians, and other staff to support student success and treatment goals.

Documentation & Accountability-Completes required documentation accurately, timely, and in compliance with organizational and educational standards.

Professionalism-Demonstrates reliability, ethical behavior, confidentiality, and adherence to organizational policies and procedures.

Technology Proficiency-Uses basic technology tools and educational systems effectively to support instruction and documentation

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and interdisciplinary staff
  • Basic technology proficiency including email, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to pass required background checks, drug screening, and any state-mandated employment clearances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or 1-year minimum experience in behavioral healthcare.
  • Experience working with youth in education, behavioral health, residential treatment, or special education settings
  • Experience managing challenging behaviors in structured environments
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and behavior management techniques

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain organized records.
  • Professional judgment, discretion, and ethical conduct.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and standard office technology.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Work is performed in a behavioral health treatment environment that may involve exposure to emotionally distressed individuals.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to behavioral emergencies involving residents weighing approximately 50–200 pounds of varying heights and body compositions.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds, carry up to 25 pounds, and push/pull up to 100 pounds as part of daily job responsibilities and emergency response situations.
  • Ability to walk for 6–8 hours per shift and stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, including up to 4 hours consecutively.
  • Must be able to kneel, squat, crouch, and climb multiple flights of stairs throughout the workday as required to maintain resident supervision and safety.
  • Ability to maintain awake, alert, and oriented status throughout the entire shift to ensure continuous line-of-sight supervision and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use standard office equipment.
  • Ability to respond to crisis situations, which may require quick movement.
