Position Summary and Job Duties
Perform legal secretarial work for the District Attorney's Office: including answering telephones, dealing with the public and attorneys, typing and general office work calling for judgment and specialized knowledge in carrying out established procedures or applying laws or regulations; and to perform related work as required.
85%- District Attorney Office - Case Management
- Receive and data enter case referrals into Protect System.
- Prepare various legal documents, transcribe dictation, create files for court within time limits.
- Communicate with attorneys, the courts and the public in a timely and professional manner.
- Prepare discovery, billing and documentation of same.
- Update case court activity in Protect.
- Pull calendars and necessary files for attorneys.
- Perform related work as required.
10%- Perform Legal Secretary Work
- Provide back up for other secretaries, receptionists or subpoena management as needed.
- Answer phones.
- Typing and general legal office work.
5%- Other duties as assigned
Success Factors (KSA's)
- Considerable knowledge of modern office methods and practices
- Considerable knowledge of legal terminology.
- Considerable knowledge of departmental programs, operation and policy.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products especially Word, Excel and Outlook
- Ability to type neatly and correctly from plain copy, corrected manuscripts, rough draft, dictation and tabular material at a rate of sixty (60) net words per minute.
- Ability to perform varied and difficult clerical tasks.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional public and working relationships.
- Ability to operate a variety of office machines.
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and prepare clear and detailed reports.
- Ability to prioritize and manage deadlines.
- Ability to maintain prompt and consistent attendance.
Job Requirements, Education, Training & Experience
- Associate degree - legal secretary.
- Three (3) or more years of responsible legal secretary experience.
- Or any equivalent combination of training and experience

Physical Elements:
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for periods of time
- Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects

Working Conditions:
- Work is mostly inside office work
