Position Summary and Job Duties



0.4 FTE working 16 hours per week.
Work: Week 1: Sunday and Friday. Week 2: Monday and Saturday. (all shifts 6:45am-3:15pm). Can also work over FTE by picking up additional shifts.

The Rock County Crisis Intervention unit provides person-centered emergent behavioral health care services to Rock County residents across the life span. The Crisis Triage Technicians serve in a multifaceted capacity to support the crisis intervention unit by answering the crisis phone line and triaging client needs. This position also assists in facilitating admissions to stabilization or inpatient units, provides transport as clinically indicated, completes welfare checks or support calls, completes medication deliveries or medication phone prompts, and assures maintenance of the clinical record. Supports and promotes the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of the Human Services Department. Performs in a manner consistent with the HSD Professional Standards and “Commitment to My Co-Workers.”
Human Service Paraprofessionals working in the Crisis Unit between the hours of 7:00 pm -7:00 am, Monday through Thursday or between 7:00 pm Friday and 7:00 am Monday will be paid a night/weekend differential of $2.65 per hour for each night or weekend hour worked.

75% Provide person-centered behavioral health care services for clients experiencing, or at risk of, a mental health or substance use disorder crisis
1. Triage and direct calls into the crisis phone line based on identified need.
2. Provide support and resources to crisis line callers.
3. Provide client transport using a county vehicle as clinically indicated to assure linkage to services.
4. Complete scheduled phone support calls, welfare checks, and medication deliveries.
5. Assist in facilitating admissions and discharges from inpatient, detoxification or stabilization units.

15% Ensure program and medical record compliance
1. Follow all departmental as well as divisional policies and procedures
2. Document client care in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines

5% Participates in staff meeting and other agency activities as required.

5% Other Duties as assigned

Professional expertise in the following areas preferred. Training and ongoing professional development will be provided.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of behavioral health care, co-occurring disorders and behavioral health risk management.
  • Knowledge and application of best practices in cultural competency, person centered care, and Trauma Informed Care.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and practices pertaining to federal and state human service programs, specifically chapters 34, 51, 92, 94.
  • Knowledge of human service and community resources; and how to effectively utilize them.
  • Ability to plan and organize work effectively.
  • Ability to take initiative, plan and organize work independently.
  • Ability to manage one's time and emotions in a fast paced often high pressure environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate, current records, and prepare clear and concise reports from them.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the agency and community.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.

Job Requirements, Education, Training & Experience

  • Graduation from High School or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 60 college /college transferable credits; Emphasis human services or related field.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Must possess and maintain a current unrestricted (not due to corrective lenses) driver's license and auto insurance pursuant to the Rock County Administrative Policy and Procedure 5.02 and 5.27.

Essential Job Functions (physical elements, equipment and working conditions)

Physical elements:
  • Ability to stand, walk and sit. Physical movement occurs a majority of the day.
  • Ability to enter client homes without assistance, including the ability to navigate stairs.
  • Participate in disaster evacuations and fire drills when circumstances warrant. Maintain safety procedures.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 25lbs. on occasion.

Equipment use:
  • Ability to use a computer and keyboard.
  • Must become efficient at using a computerized documentation within 2 months of hire including the use of Microsoft Office products, an electronic medical record system, and other web based systems.
  • Ability to use a copy and fax machine as well as a cellphone.

Working conditions:
  • Able to work in multiple locations including the office, consumer's homes, and a variety of community locations.
  • Inside and outside work with exposure to weather conditions.
  • Potential for contact with unpredictable and aggressive persons.
  • Potential for interactions with animals including but not limited to household pets.
  • Exposure to challenging and unpredictable environments.
