Job Title: Lactation Specialist
Schedule: Per Diem
SUMMARY:
Facilitate Baby Café. Provide 1:1 outpatient lactation appointments and community education including but not limited to Child Birth, infant feeding, heart saver/infant safety . Provide all
necessary documentation and data collection.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitate Baby Café according to Baby Café USA guidelines.
• Weekly record keeping of Baby Café participants.
• Assist with lactation related issues as needed while facilitating lactation based topics during Café hours.
• Use evidence based best practices according the IBCLE Code of Conduct/scope of practice and work with interdisciplinary team to obtain best outcomes for mother and infant.
• Schedule one on one lactation appointments with discharged breastfeeding mothers and infants.
• Assist in the patient referral process with patients directly or through correspondences with local providers.
• Report weekly statistics from Baby Café and lactation appointments.
• Provide Early Breast Feeding education for the Women's Care center
• Support pediatric practice when parent needs assistance and check in with maternity unit patients and provide support when able.
• Provide Community Education programming for Child Birth, Infant Feeding and Infant Safety /Heart Saver classes.

• Provides age and culturally appropriate assessment, interpretation of clinical and laboratory data and develops and implements age appropriate interventions and plans of care including education within the parameters of his/her position responsibilities and licensure.
• Ensure staff considers age related concerns such as hearing, vision, speech and level of understanding, when interacting with patients, employees and families.
• NRP Preferred
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing
Registered Nurse license in New York State.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Must obtain IBCLC certification within 1 year of the position start date
Certification as a lactation consultant or 1-2 years experience working with pregnant/breastfeeding individuals
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
