Job Title: Cytotechnologist
Department: Cytology
Location: Rochester General Hospital
Hours Per Week: Full-Time, 40 Hours/Week
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts, 8a-4:30p
SUMMARY
As a Cytotechnologist, your developed examination and evaluation skills are key factors in identifying disease in gynecologic and non-gynecologic slides, leading to critical discovery for patient care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Specimen & Equipment Management. Screen and evaluate gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens by microscope; document results on worksheets and in the laboratory information system; assist with fine needle aspirations, specimen preparation and staining; maintain cytology workload records
- Leadership. Make suggestions to improve work methods and efficiency, reduce costs and solve operational problems; promote and support a positive team environment; participate in the planning and accomplishment of goals and objectives
- General Maintenance. Perform and document routine maintenance on microscope(s) and quality control rescreening if qualified
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- New York State Department of Education License or Limited Permit as a Cytotechnologist.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS in Cytotechnology or BS in a related Science
- Graduate of an approved CT training program
- Master's in Cytotechnology preferred
- Four years of experience in cytotechnology and previous experience in a Clinical or Pathology Laboratory preferred
- Liquid-based cytology training/certification (SurePath) preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills
- Certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
PAY RANGE: $39.00 - $46.35
