The Rochester Red Wings are offering an educational opportunity for talented interns to join our communications team, working with the Manager of Communications and Baseball Information, Matt Toohey. This in-season role provides a hands-on experience in sports communications, enhancing your skills and knowledge in a professional baseball environment.
As a Communications/Media Relations Intern, you will receive training that builds on classroom knowledge and academic experience, closely supervised by experienced professionals. This internship aims to enhance your skills, providing you with practical knowledge and experience that are transferable to any similar business in the field. You will engage in real-world projects, gaining insights into the communication and media relations strategies of a professional sports organization.
- Team Publications: Learn to assist in the production of team publications, ensuring accurate and engaging content.
- Press Releases: Gain experience writing press releases, post-game website stories, feature stories, and updating statistical information.
- Media Requests: Develop skills in handling media requests and coordinating with various media outlets.
- Game and Player Information: Write game notes, post-game notes, and updates on roster moves.
- Software Proficiency: Improve your proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and gain basic experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
- Flexible Responsibilities: Undertake additional duties as assigned by other departments to gain a broader understanding of the organization.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Sports Management, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Strong writing background with excellent communication skills.
- Knowledge of baseball rules and statistics.
- Basic experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and manage multiple tasks.
- Must be fulfilling academic credit requirements for the internship.
- Developing excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Enhancing attention to detail and creative problem-solving abilities in communications and media relations contexts.
