What are the responsibilities and job description for the American Indian Education Liaison position at Rochester Public Schools?
- Build and maintain positive connections between administration, staff, and families of American Indian students
- Manage student groups (small groups in buildings, larger intradistrict student groups, organize field trips and college visits
- Ensure American Indian students have access to support systems needed to succeed in the Rochester Public Schools.
- Provide training and resources for staff on Indigenous culture, history, and culturally responsive practices.
- Serve as a resource within the district on Indigenous education.
- Collaborate with counselors, school social workers, administrators and staff to provide support services
- Attend parent conferences and make home visits as requested
- Provide outreach services to parents of American Indian students.
- Assist new American Indian families with registration, orientation and follow-up services.
- Perform other tasks within the level of responsibility of position as assigned by the Coordinator.
- Develop and coordinate Higher Education collaboration with the district (Example: Get Ready for College and Career).
- Provide enrichment opportunities for students (American Indian literature, with an emphasis on vocabulary and reading comprehension).
- Work collaboratively with the American Indian Parent Committee
- Academic tutoring
- Work collaboratively with after school program coordinators
- Ongoing support, conflict mediation and resolution services
- Support for students in summer programming
- Knowledge of community resources and agencies that support students and families.
- Understanding of educational programs and assistance within the school setting to support and sustain student progress and success in making transitions from one level to the next.
