Job Summary:

The Quality Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and performance of precision optical components and assemblies. This position supports the implementation and maintenance of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and collaborates with cross-functional teams to uphold rigorous quality standards throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. The technician will perform inspections, analyze data, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and customer satisfaction.

 

You Will:

  • Perform visual, dimensional, and functional inspections of incoming materials, in-process components, and finished products using precision measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, interferometers).
  • Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI), Receiving Inspections, In-Process Inspections, and Final Product Inspections.
  • Verify product conformance to specifications and customer requirements prior to shipment.
  • Investigate non-conforming materials and products to determine root causes.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data from manufacturing processes to identify trends and anomalies.
  • Generate quality reports and dashboards to communicate findings to engineering and production teams.
  • Support shipment readiness with data validation, traceability checks, and conformance verification.
  • Propose and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) in collaboration with engineering and production teams.
  • Maintain and update quality documentation, procedures, and records in compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Support internal and external audits with documentation and process evidence.
  • Train and mentor new employees in inspection techniques, quality standards, and proper use of measurement tools to ensure consistency and accuracy across the team.
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by management to support departmental goals, continuous improvement initiatives, or cross-functional projects.
  • May work in cleanroom environments and low-light conditions to inspect sensitive optical components.

 

You Have:

  • High school diploma/GED Required, associate degree or technical certification in optics, engineering, manufacturing, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in quality assurance or inspection in a manufacturing environment, ideally in optics or precision components.
  • Proficiency in using precision measurement instruments and inspection equipment.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards and quality system documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Basic computer skills (Excel, Word, ERP systems); experience with quality software a plus.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Environment & Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand: use hands to fingers, handle or feel: and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.
  • The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May involve prolonged periods of magnified inspection (eye strain)
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.
  • The employee is frequently required to use the computer.
  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.
  • Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions. (Lab Coats provided)
  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.
  • Safety Glasses are required and May require area specific safety training
  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. 
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne paper particles. May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another, during the production process.
