Job Summary:
The Optical Fabricator (Centering) is responsible for the setup, operation, and control of CNC and conventional centering equipment used to machine precision optical components to print. This role focuses on achieving tight dimensional and concentricity requirements while maintaining process stability and throughput. Work supports prototype through production programs and requires close alignment with engineering and quality.
You will:
- Set up and operate CNC and conventional centering machines (including Nakamura-Tome and similar platforms).
- Develop, run, and adjust CNC programs based on drawings, specifications, and machining parameters.
- Center optical components to print, maintaining dimensional accuracy and concentricity requirements.
- Monitor machine performance and make real-time adjustments to maintain process control.
- Perform in-process and final inspection using appropriate metrology tools (e.g., micrometers, comparators, gauges).
- Verify component geometry, alignment, and surface condition in accordance with specifications.
- Identify and isolate nonconforming material and coordinate with quality and engineering as needed.
- Document production and inspection results in accordance with internal procedures.
- Support process development, tooling setup, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintain equipment, tooling, and work area in proper operating condition.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED Required.
- 3–5 years of experience in optical fabrication or precision machining, with direct experience in centering operations preferred.
- Experience setting up and operating CNC machining equipment; familiarity with centering machines strongly preferred
- Ability to read and interpret optical drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools and inspection methods
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining processes
- Ability to make process adjustments based on inspection results and machine performance
- Experience working in a production environment with accountability for yield and throughput
- Exposure to lean manufacturing practices is beneficial.

Work Requirements & Physical Demands:
- Work is performed in a manufacturing environment using CNC and conventional machining equipment
- Requires extended periods of standing and hands-on machine operation
- Frequent handling of small, delicate optical components requiring fine motor coordination
- Regular use of inspection tools requiring sustained visual focus
- Exposure to oils, coolants, and cleaning agents associated with machining operations
- Work around moving mechanical equipment and moderate noise levels
- Use of required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses

Weekend Shift: Friday - Sunday 5am - 5:30pm
Before transitioning to a weekend shift schedule, all employees must complete mandatory training on A Shift: Monday - Friday 6am - 2:30pm for6-8 weeks.
Salary : $21 - $24
