What are the responsibilities and job description for the HOCKEY GENERAL MANAGER position at Rochester Jr. Americans?
SUMMARY
The Rochester Jr. Americans is seeking an experienced hockey professional to serve as Hockey General Manager and lead our AAA program. The Hockey General Manager will help shape the overall direction of the program, including player and coach development, recruiting, scheduling, team operations, and player advancement.
We are looking for someone who will bring their own ideas, experience, relationships, and vision to the organization while helping our teams compete at the highest levels of youth hockey.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership and direction for the Jr. Amerks AAA program
- Recruit and retain talented players and qualified coaches.
- Support and mentor AAA coaches and collaborate with AA Travel coaches on coaching education and player development.
- Lead skills clinics, camps, and development programming throughout the year.
- Ensure goaltender development remains a priority.
- Help coordinate team schedules, tournaments, showcases, and general hockey operations.
- Assist players with opportunities such as New York State and USA Hockey development camps.
- Help players and families navigate advancement opportunities in prep school, junior, and college hockey.
- Build relationships throughout youth, prep, junior, and collegiate hockey.
- Serve as a member of the Hockey Operations Committee and collaborate with other Jr. Amerks program leaders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- College or professional hockey playing experience.
- Previous coaching experience at the AAA, prep, junior, college, or professional level.
- Demonstrated experience developing players and building competitive teams.
- Strong leadership, communication, recruiting, and organizational skills.
- Established hockey relationships and player advancement experience are preferred.
- Must satisfy all applicable USA Hockey, SafeSport, and background screening requirements.
POSITION DETAILS
- Reports directly to the President of the Rochester Jr. Americans.
- Year-round, full-time contracted position with no direct reports.
- Independent contractor position; employee benefits such as healthcare, paid time off, and retirement contributions are not provided.
- Based in Rochester, New York, with Rochester Ice Center serving as the primary home rink.
- Evening, weekend, and overnight travel is required, primarily throughout the Northeastern United States and Southern Ontario.
- Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
