What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yard Laborer position at Rochester Iron & Metal?
Starting Pay: Minimum of $15/hr, depending on experience
The Salvage Yard Laborer is responsible for performing various tasks related to the operation and maintenance of a salvage yard, including but not limited to sorting, processing, and moving materials, maintaining equipment and facilities, and providing support to other team members as needed. General clean-up is a regular task.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sort and process materials, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, tires, and batteries.
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records and tracking the movement of materials.
- Maintain equipment and facilities, including performing basic maintenance tasks and cleaning.
- Provide support to other team members.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding salvage yard operations.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, including enforcing safety protocols and ensuring that all employees are adhering to environmental regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. - Previous experience in a salvage yard or similar environment preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations regarding salvage yards preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
