Detailed Job Description
- Manage the provision of interpreting services to academic and non-academic areas within colleges and student organizations at RIT.
- Supervise professional staff interpreters (30), coordinators (2), apprentices, student interpreters and a shared staff assistant, as well as interact with temporary hires, student employees and contract employees. Provide leadership, guidance, discipline, support and encouragement for all employees.
- Forecast, assess, oversee requests for services, consult/negotiate designated sections and services needed within the areas of responsibilities, in cooperation with NTID support and RIT faculty, as well as with consumers requesting services. Maintain an on-going presence, communication and partnership with all as required.
- Utilize Access Services Database System (ASDS) to monitor services, communicate with consumers regarding status of their requests for services, establish schedules and shifts for employees, manage on-call system, assure coverage for employees out of work and generate reports for operations such as cross-checking data with RIT Kronos payroll system. Verify and sign off timecards in Kronos.
- Together in consultation with other managers make recommendations to DAS Assistant Dean/Director to improve access service procedures, practices and protocols.
- Oversee Coordinators who assist on a daily basis with assigning for services, building and monitoring schedules with appropriate workloads, and troubleshooting issues, concerns or problems with service delivery and/or consumers.
- Administer and monitor department budget, inclusive of apprentices, temporary hires, student interpreters, staff payroll and time reporting, professional development travel funds, hospitality, instructional and office supplies.
- Assist the DAS Assistant Dean/Director with a total budget of approximately $18 million, which constitutes the provision of approximately 150,000 hours of interpreting.
- Provide consultation, guidance and referral regarding Health & Safety matters, Cumulative Trauma Disorders, Workers' Compensation system, other benefits available to employees and institute service needs such as Human Resources & Payroll.
