Laboratory Operations
- Laboratory Preparation: Collaborate with faculty to prepare and manage teaching laboratories. This includes setting up and tearing down lab materials, preparing reagents and media, and restocking essential supplies.
- Inventory & Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of lab spaces, including cleaning equipment and glassware, and managing stockroom inventory, databases, and chargebacks.
- Live Cultures: Maintain live prokaryotic and eukaryotic cultures used in teaching labs.
- Autoclave & Glassware: Supervise the operation of autoclaves and glassware washers for both teaching and research labs.
- Regulatory Management: Ensure all labs comply with safety regulations. This includes conducting safety inspections with EH&S personnel, maintaining chemical and safety equipment inventories, and managing safety documentation (e.g., MSDS).
- Waste Management: Manage the proper handling, decontamination, and disposal of all lab waste, including chemical, biological, and medical waste, in compliance with university and regulatory standards.
- Cadaver Facility: Maintain the daily condition of the cadaver facility, act as the liaison with the University of Rochester for donor acquisition and disposal, and maintain all related records.
- Student Team Leadership: Assist in hiring, mentoring, and training student employees and co-op students, providing daily guidance on stockroom and lab support operations.
- Equipment Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for equipment repair and maintenance, coordinating with vendors and RIT's Service Center.
- Access Control: Manage building, lab, and classroom access using the Lenel Access System and assist with key audits.
- Procurement & Logistics: Handle procurement procedures, including ordering supplies, and coordinate all shipping and receiving activities for the department.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Prior Laboratory Experience: Proven experience in a Life Sciences and Chemistry wet-lab environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of the operation of scientific equipment, such as sterilizers, incubators, and biosafety cabinets.
- Safety Expertise: Experience with the handling of biological, medical, and chemical waste, as well as gas cylinders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with faculty, students, and other staff members.
- Organizational Skills: excellent time management and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
- We are seeking a proactive, organized, and detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of laboratory operations, safety protocols, and general facility maintenance.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
