Job Title: LPN Weekend Program - Acute General Medicine/Telemetry

Department: Acute General Medicine/Telemetry (5400/5500)

Location: Rochester General Hospital

Hours Per Week: Full-Time Weekend Program (36 hours per week)

Weekend Program Details: The Weekend Program requires employees to work all scheduled hours between 7am Friday and 7am Tuesday for a minimum of 26 weeks. Employees are eligible to remain in the program permanently or after the 26 week minimum commitment return to a different schedule and shift. In addition to the Weekend Only add-on pay, employees in the program remain eligible for applicable premium pay (shift differential, overtime, etc.).

SUMMARY: The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care, usually under the direction of a Registered Nurse, in accordance with established plans. The Licensed Practical Nurse is a key member of the care delivery team. The Licensed Practical Nurse communicates the needs of the patient and the team; collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, takes direction from the RN and delegates appropriately to the other members of the team.

The Acute Medical/Telemetry Unit (5400/5500) is a fast-paced, high-acuity unit that cares for patients with complex medical conditions and multi-system health needs. Licensed Practical Nurses gain valuable experience managing a diverse patient population with cardiac conditions requiring telemetry, diabetes, renal disease and dialysis, pulmonary disorders, sepsis, and other acute and chronic illnesses. Nurses develop advanced clinical skills while caring for patients with multiple drips, drains, catheters, chest tubes, and feeding tubes, all while providing compassionate, patient-centered care. With strong interdisciplinary collaboration and exposure to a wide variety of diagnoses, 5400/5500 is an excellent unit for nurses looking to expand their clinical expertise and grow their careers in acute care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patient Care & Service - Promote and restore patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; perform various treatment procedures; provide physical, educational and emotional support to patients, friends and families; supervise assigned team members.
  • Medication Administration & Reporting - Administer medication and give/receive relevant reports, both written and verbal from/to appropriate staff as per departmental protocols.
  • Documentation - Ensure concise, pertinent and complete documentation using computerized medical record process.
  • Preparation - Ensure clinical areas are properly supplied and exam rooms are available and stocked.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Practical Nursing or equivalent required.
  • Current licensure in State of New York as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills highly desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
