Job Title: Special Education Teacher (full-time, temporary, with possibility of becoming permanent)


Reports To: Director of Early Childhood Education


FLSA Status: Exempt


Summary: Responsible for planning and the preparation for the Smile classroom activities. Acts in collaboration with teaching team, plans and implements the daily class lesson plan, assists with behavior management, co-teaches at centers/circle and contributing observations on student progress, and maintains knowledge of UPK children’s objectives to assist in implementation by performing the following duties.


Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Communicate daily/weekly with parents regarding their child. Develop and distribute monthly calendar of events.
  2. Hold formal parent conferences at least twice annually, and more frequently when deemed appropriate.
  3. Review each child’s IEP and sign for having been made aware of your responsibility. Implement IEP for each child in accordance with NY State Department of Education guidelines and update information 4 times per year.
  4. Write annual report for each child indicting process, current level of performance, and recommendations for future placement needs, including IEP goals.
  5. Advocate for a child by presenting reports at the CPSE or CSE meetings as scheduled by Home School District.
  6. With your Co-Teacher, evaluate performance of children in SMILE program in all areas of development, using formal and informal assessment tools, Maintains all files on each child to include developmental progress (portfolios, assessments, parent correspondence, documented behavior problems (FBA/BIP), and any other pertinent information (COR, T-CRS).
  7. Creation and implementation of the High Scope program using assessments and observations to inform small group lesson plans as well as participates fully in the program.*
  8. Sets up daily classroom materials and integrates individualized education program goals into small group lesson plans.*
  9. Per High Scope document key COR anecdotes to plan and maintain daily differentiated lesson planning.
  10. Contributes to a clean, attractive, stimulating, safe, and organized classroom as well as assists in maintaining the cleanliness of floors, bathrooms, toys, and carpets according to New York State Office of Children and Family Services regulations, Rochester Childfirst Network policies and procedures, and teaching pyramid model practices.*
  11. Maintains all required attendance, Child and Adult Care Food Program, New York State Office of Children and Family Services and other RCN required paperwork with fidelity.*
  12. Assists in the maintenance of all student emergency contact information used in classrooms for field trips and emergency drills.*
  13. Develops and maintains a positive rapport with parents and all Rochester Childfirst Network staff.*
  14. Supports and enforces classroom and center policies.*
  15. Adhere to and have knowledge of OCFS regulations; ratio, incident reports, supervision of children. Classroom must be staffed to ratio and acknowledge the requirements of staffing to ratio; i.e., staying past scheduled end of shift or leaving early if over staffed*
  16. Implements teaching pyramid practices to fidelity.*
  17. Conducts monthly supervision of staff; reviewing performance of carrying out lesson plans, following teaching pyramid practices, engagement with children and contributing to a clean safe environment.
  18. Team planning and shared teaching responsibilities between teacher and assistants.
  19. Uses non-punitive methods of discipline, and offers guidance in a positive manner.
  20. Able to adapt to the immediate situation and change plans as needed.
  21. Ensure that minimum of two times outside time is occurring daily per OCFS requirements.*
  22. Ensure that smart boards are only used 10-15 minutes daily and must be reflected on lesson plan.
  23. Implement the use of PATHS curriculum for social and emotional development weekly.
  24. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, internet software, and email software.


Education/Experience:

Master’s Degree with B-2 NYS Special Education Certification and one year of early childhood experience.


Specialized Training:

· B-2 NYS Teaching Certification, Special Education

· RECAP, COR


Certificates and Licenses:

· CPR certification

· First aid certification

· MAT certification

· Time management Skills

· Oral and written communication skills

· Professionalism

· Lesson plan writing skills

· Maintaining calm and composed during various challenging behaviors while addressing issues

· Problem solving with children during escalated behaviors


Job Type: Full-time (temporary)


Pay: $37,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year
