Located 25 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Rochelle Zell Jewish High School is a private, co-educational high school. Rochelle Zell offers a college preparatory program that combines a rigorous general studies education with a comprehensive Jewish studies education. Rochelle Zell also offers strong athletic and fine arts programs, as well as numerous extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities. Rochelle Zell opened its doors as Chicagoland Jewish High School (CJHS) in 2001 to 26 students and has continued to grow. Upon receiving a generous endowment from the Zell family, the school was renamed in honor of the Zell family matriarch, Rochelle Zell. Our current enrollment consists of 137 students drawn from over 20 communities in the Chicago area and beyond.
Who We’re Seeking
We are seeking a skilled, passionate Biology teacher to teach two sections of 9th grade Biology and one section of 12th grade AP Biology. We also have sections of semester-long Health available as well. Depending on expertise, experience, and teacher availability, this opening could be part-time (0.4 FTE) or closer to full time (0.8 FTE).
This is a unique opportunity to join a highly professional faculty at a school that offers a robust and rigorous dual curriculum in General and Jewish Studies. At minimum, qualified candidates must have earned a bachelor’s degree and hold a professional teaching license in their particular subject area.
Duties and Responsibilities – Student Activities Coordinator
The Student Activities Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Jewish Life. The Student Activities Coordinator also works closely with the Director of Admissions & Recruitment, and the Academic Dean. The Student Activities Coordinator is responsible for carrying out the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Student Leadership and Extracurricular Clubs/Activities
- Oversee 25 student clubs end-to-end
- Advise and support student government (Va’ad HaStudentim)
- Run Activities Fair and track participation in clubs throughout the year
- Manage annual club leadership transitions
- Train and coach student leaders each fall
- Recruit, engage, and cultivate student club leadership
- Directly supervise several specific clubs
2. School Culture and Events
- Coordinate Spirit Week, Homecoming & Prom
- Support Jewish holiday programming throughout the year
- Plan and execute overnight retreats (Shabbatonim) for students
- Support the planning of longer school trips
- Manage vendor relationships, logistics, and budgets
3. Student Support
- Regular check-ins with new and transfer students
- Ongoing wellness support for assigned students
- Coordinate with counselors and administrators
- Member of the Student Services team, which includes weekly meetings, and supporting students’ social/emotional wellbeing
- Identify and promote potential student internship opportunities
4. Recruitment and Communications
- Participate in school recruitment and enrollment events
- Support prospective student shadow days
- Help manage student ambassador program
- Contribute to school communications and social media
Potential Ways to Expand the Role to Full Time
- Teaching in a General Studies or Jewish Studies content area
- Teaching an Arts and Electives course
- Leading a Tefillah elective and/or other involvement in the Tefillah program
- Student data management support
- Coaching or other extracurricular activity leader
Contract Dates
August 10, 2026– June 30, 2027
Compensation
$33,000 - $40,000 for the 0.6 FTE Student Activities Coordinator Role, based on degree and experience.
Salary : $33,000 - $40,000
