The cook on duty performs clerical responsibilities related to patient care, including printing the diet list from the computer, editing patient menus, and preparing the patient snack list. Under limited supervision provides communications between Food Service and other patient departments. In the absence of the Food Service Manager, supervises all other Food Service personnel. Prepares all hot food items including some salads and desserts, and is responsible for the final patient tray assembly. Duties may vary to meet the requirement of the Food Service department activities.

Position will have occasional shift of 11am - 730pm
Education- Preferred Level: High School Diploma or GED. Any equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
- Food service sanitation certification is required.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English.
- Must have general knowledge of computer use for e-mail and testing.
Experience
- Knowledge of food preparation and operations of Food Service equipment is desirable.
- A working knowledge of special and restricted diets will be helpful in assuring the proper operation of the Food Service Department.
- The ability to communicate effectively with other personnel.
Work Environment
- The ideal candidate must be able to work and complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Hazards are typical of institutional kitchens (hot cooking surfaces, sharp objects, electrical equipment, and extreme temperatures are frequently encountered).
- On occasion, lift up to 50 pounds of miscellaneous food items.
- Constant kneeling, stooping, bending, twisting and occasional need to lift patients
- Medium Lifting, generally lifting not more than 50 lbs. maximum with assistance, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Requires a great deal of walking, standing, and bending to floor level approximately 80% of the time while on duty.
- Must be able to reach shelves at least 6 feet high, reach work areas of 4 feet wide, and work on work surfaces 3 feet high.
Annual Requirements
- Participate in annual OSHA training.
- Attend continuing education seminars as required.
- Comply with employee health requirements.
- Comply with hospital mandatory in-service training.
- Complete annual HIPPA training.
- Complete tray-passing training provided by nursing staff (AIDET).
