Role: Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator
Location: Salisbury, NC/Boston, MA/Frisco, TX
Role Summary:
The DB2 DBA on z/OS is responsible for the administration, performance tuning, and maintenance of IBM DB2 databases running on the z/OS mainframe platform. This role ensures data integrity, availability, and security across mission-critical systems and collaborates with cross-functional teams to support business applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Installation & Configuration:
- Set up and manage DB2 subsystems, buffer pools, and storage groups.
- Performance Tuning & Optimization:
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning measures
- Optimize SQL queries and indexing strategies.
- Analyze workload and adjust system parameters for efficiency.
- Backup, Recovery & Disaster Planning:
- Implement and manage backup and recovery procedures.
- Develop and test disaster recovery strategies
- Security & Compliance:
- Manage user access controls and database security policies.
- Ensure compliance with data governance and audit requirements
- Automation & Monitoring:
- Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting (e.g., REXX, Shell, Python).
- Use monitoring tools to proactively detect and resolve issues
- Collaboration & Support:
- Work closely with application developers, system programmers, and infrastructure teams.
- Provide support during deployments, upgrades, and troubleshooting
- Documentation & Standards:
- Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, and standards.
- Define and enforce database standards and best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Technical Expertise:
- Strong experience with DB2 for z/OS (versions 10 through 12).
- Proficiency in JCL, TSO/ISPF, VSAM, and DB2 utilities.
- Familiarity with SMP/E, RACF, and IBM mainframe tools.
- Knowledge of IBM MQ for z/OS, IMS, or CICS connectivity with DB2.
- Experience with DB2 DDF (Distributed Data Facility) and remote connectivity.
Experience:
- 5 years of hands-on experience in DB2 database administration on z/OS.
- Experience with performance tuning, disaster recovery, and automation.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Education & Certifications:
- IBM Certified Database Administrator DB2 for z/OS is a plus
