What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Facilities position at ROBS?

River Oaks Baptist School is seeking an experienced Director of Facilities to join our team effective August 2025. 

 

The Director of Facilities at River Oaks Baptist Church and School reports to the Senior Pastor and the Associate Head of School for Operations. The primary responsibility of this role is managing the daily operations and maintenance of all campus facilities, providing leadership and oversight to maintenance staff and other independent contractors, developing facilities budgets, planning for campus repair and replacements, and fostering collaboration across various constituencies.

Responsibilities 

  • Oversight of all building and grounds maintenance staff, custodial staff, and independent contractors. Manage department personnel, including performance evaluations, salary administration, training and development, and discipline
  • Manages and responds to all facility work orders and room/event set ups originating from building users, using established processes and developing new processes as appropriate
  • Schedules and performs regular preventive maintenance on all building systems, including all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofs, finishes, landscaping, safety and monitoring systems, and other equipment
  • Manage third party software including HVAC Controls, CMMS program, Work Order program (Schooldude), etc.
  • Selects 3rd-party maintenance contractors and manages the fulfillment of their contract obligations, including quality control of their work
  • Oversees regular cleaning of the Church and School, supervises and manages custodians and/or custodial service contractor
  • Manages new construction projects and coordinates with both general and subcontractors
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including work safety regulations.  Oversees inspections of all building systems as needed for compliance (boiler, fire alarms, elevators, etc.). Respond to all alarms 24/7
  • Creates annual operating budgets and capital renewal (PPRRSM) budget for facilities department in conjunction with the Senior Pastor, Associate Head of School for Operations, and Church Buildings and Grounds Committee, and controls facilities expenditures
  • Develops and executes strategy for maintenance and operation of the campus.
  • Collaborates with program and staff leadership, to understand special needs and maintain quality of support to the mission (e.g. Church staff, academic leaders, food service, athletics, technology, security)
  • Provides facilities support to Church and School events (e.g. setups and takedowns)
  • Responds to all alarm events and/or emergencies 24/7
  • Maintains appropriate records of all maintenance and building activities
  • Participates constructively in the strategic development and management of the campus (e.g. master plan, zoning compliance, utilities services, energy management)
  • Responsible for supervising independent contractors as well as the Assistant to the Director of Facilities
  • Oversight of the Facilities Department
  • Conducting staff evaluations and providing performance feedback to reporting staff members, including identifying goals and offering and providing professional development opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications and Skills 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience required
  • 5 years of related technical work experience is preferred, as well as experience in a Church and/or School setting. Related experience could entail construction, plant engineer, facility management, HVAC Management
  • Proven personnel management skills and contractor management experience, with aptitude to judge quality of performance in all major technical trades and personal experience in at least one technical trade (carpentry, mechanical, electrical, structural)
  • Technology user skills sufficient to prepare reports in Excel and Word, and aptitude to operate BAS (building automation system), alarm system, work order system, CMMS, etc.
  • Must have strong mechanical aptitudes and a working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Must have excellent administrative skills, interpersonal skills, and strong communication skills (both oral and written) along with the ability to respond to departments, faculty, staff, church and school leadership, and other constituents in an efficient and professional manner
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to multi-task.
  • Commitment to the Church and School’s needs and readiness to respond 24/7/365 as reasonable and necessary
  • Able to conform to established policies and procedures and to address issues in a manner that is consistent with existing guideline for the program 
  • Successful completion of background checks and verification
