Human Resource Generalist

Job Details: The Human Resources Generalist supports the HR department by implementing and maintaining policies and programs related to employment law, recruitment, onboarding, training, workforce management, compensation, safety, benefits, payroll, employee services, and employee relations. This role owns the full payroll processing cycle and plays a critical part in recruiting and maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local employment regulations.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Manage full-cycle payroll processing, including preparation, planning, deductions, garnishments, reimbursements, and final processing.

• Coordinate all aspects of recruitment: job postings, resume screening, interviews, and facilitating hiring decisions.

• Conduct or coordinate background checks, drug screens, pre-employment physicals, and employment eligibility verifications.

• Support administration and execution of HR programs: compensation, benefits, leave, performance, recognition, morale, and disciplinary actions.

• Address employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, escalating complex matters as needed.

• Advise on employee relations and policy matters in both union and non-union settings.

• Attend and participate in disciplinary meetings, terminations, and workplace investigations.

• File and manage unemployment claims, appeals, and respond to third-party requests.

• Maintain compliance with employment laws and company policies; review and recommend policy updates.

• Stay up-to-date on HR trends, best practices, legal changes, and collective bargaining agreements.

• Accurately maintain employee records and HRIS data to ensure data integrity and compliance.

• Participate in internal and external audits.

• Conduct new hire orientation and support onboarding experience.

• Provide administrative support to the HR Manager and contribute to special projects and initiatives.

Required Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

• 3 years of HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

• Experience with both union and non-union workforces is strongly preferred.

• Payroll experience is required

• Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with professionalism.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.

• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.

Supervision

• Level of Supervision: Highly autonomous; must work independently with minimal oversight.
