As Senior Product Counsel, you will act as a key advisor and first point of legal contact to support our product, engineering, and other teams in building the future of the Roblox platform. Our mission as Product Counsel is to become product experts and to provide thoughtful and effective legal advice to help our business teams succeed. To accomplish this, we work closely with other members of the legal team and collaborate with a wide range of cross-functional teams to identify risks while maintaining a keen sense of business judgment.

This role is dedicated to providing strategic legal advice to internal product and engineering teams, in connection with our Economy team, the team that productizes Robux and the Developer Exchange process at Roblox. The role requires application of complex, evolving legal frameworks to new and innovative products and services. This role requires a strong understanding of payments regulatory compliance frameworks, particularly in the creator economy, as well as the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, including legal, compliance and business partners to drive operational excellence and achieve strategic goals. You will report to the Director of Product Legal at our San Mateo offices.

You Will

• Act as a trusted advisor to the Economy team, supporting product, engineering, and operations in the full lifecycle of platform monetization—including virtual currency systems, developer exchanges, gift cards, and wallet services to ensure healthy product launches.
• Ensure compliance with US and international laws and regulations including those concerning money transmission, virtual currencies, anti-money laundering rules, know-your-customer requirements, and consumer protection.
• Advise on the risks associated with offering products such as virtual currencies, gift cards, and dynamic pricing in all jurisdictions in which Roblox or such products are available.
• Partner cross-functionally—collaborating with product, trust & safety, marketing, policy, and external legal advisors—to align product development with legal and business objectives Monitor and interpret evolving legal and regulatory landscapes relevant to digital economy and fintech sectors; build internal playbooks, training materials, and governance models to scale legal thinking within the business. Build positive and influential relationships company-wide through trusted advising, knowledge-sharing and training.
  
  

You Have

• 8 years of relevant legal experience, preferably a combination of law firm and in-house experience at a consumer-facing technology company.
• A license to practice law in a US jurisdiction.
• Strong business-oriented judgment and the ability to analyze problems, propose solutions, and provide advice that is creative, practical, and legally acceptable, taking into account the needs and objectives of the business.
• The ability to manage a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively investigating and identifying issues.
• The desire to work on a small but growing team, and a track record of collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to overcome complex challenges.
  
  

You Are

• Experienced in advising companies engaged in payments, UGC platforms, digital commerce, and/or offering virtual currencies.
• A superior communicator, with proven experience in cross-functional collaboration and consensus building.
• Proven track record of educating internal stakeholders, translating complex concepts, and advising on risk mitigation strategies.
  
  

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range

$291,720—$334,420 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
