Position Summary
The Benefits Administrator, in conjunction with the Director of Human Resources, provides best practices for aligning firm sponsored benefits with business objectives, management, and employee needs. Is responsible for the day-to-day administration of group benefits programs including group health, dental, vision, life insurance, health savings account, flexible spending accounts, vision, voluntary accident, critical illness, and hospitalization plans, etc. This position provides excellent customer service assisting partners, employees and family members with claims and benefit inquiries. Continually investigates new benefit programs, improves existing programs, and ensures the accuracy of plan enrollments and HR/Payroll systems.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Human Resources, the Firm Benefits Partner, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Talent Officer, and Firm brokers to review and ensure the quality of Firm sponsored benefit plans.
- Facilitates annual review of plan offerings and design. Evaluates the use services, coverage, and competitive trends in benefit programs. Makes recommendations for improvements to Director of Human Resources and Chief Talent Officer.
- Designs and distributes materials for new hire benefits orientations, open enrollment, summary plan descriptions and retiree benefit offerings.
- Serves as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators.
- Administers benefits enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, voluntary accident, hospitalization and critical illness enrollments and claims.
- Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HR database (ADP) and updates necessary payroll records.Evaluates and revises internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Coordinates the transfer of accurate data and enrollment eligibility to plan vendors via ADP or other portals as required by vendors.
- Processes monthly vendor invoices and reconciliation of invoices to ensure proper allocation of invoices for payment
- Ensures compliance and effectively interprets applicable government regulations, IRS limits, plan documents, and timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees for health and welfare plans.
- Conducts open enrollment and other periodic communications, trainings, and information sessions for partners and employees about benefits programs, updates including wellbeing activities. Arranges vendor presentations promoting benefit programs.
- Provides informational planning meetings with partners nearing retirement.
- Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes.
Wellbeing
- Actively supports the Firm’s Wellbeing Committee, promotes wellbeing activities and events; contributes to the design of the wellbeing program; provides information and responds to inquires; manages wellbeing budget.
- Actively supports the firm’s commitment to the ABA Well-Being Pledge.
- Supports the firm’s Wellbeing Committee by effectively utilizing and communicating various programs offered by benefit plans provided by the Firm.
- This position requires travel to firm offices.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of benefit administration experience with an extensive knowledge of employee benefits and knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, COBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
- Must have computer proficiency and technical aptitude with Microsoft products particularly advanced skills with Excel.
- Prior experience with ADP Workforce Now required.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required
- CEBS, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP professional designations preferred.
NY Applicants: Please note that the target base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $100,000. Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's years of experience, skills, qualifications, and office location.
