Example of Duties:
Under general supervision, provides emergency and non-emergency communication response to public requesting law enforcement, fire or emergency medical service. Work involves receiving non-emergency calls and routing or assigns appropriately, obtaining all necessary information and transmits same to appropriate dispatcher or responding agency, maintaining appropriate logs and documents, recalling citizens when necessary, operating a variety of equipment that may include computer systems, radios, telephone, and related equipment. Reports to Telecommunicator Supervisor.
Education and Experience:

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma.
- Valid North Carolina driver's license required upon hire and duration of employment. Out of state driver's license will be accepted only if the individual is a permanent resident of that state.
- Division of Criminal Information (DCI) certification, NIMS certification, Telecommunicator certification, Emergency Medical Dispatch and Emergency Fire Dispatch certification required within one year of hire.
Telecommunicator I is an entry level position. (Grade 68)
Telecommunicator II:
- When employee has 3 years of experience and has completed the following continuing education courses/hours, Grade 69 will be applied.
- EFD (Emergency Fire Dispatch) – 18 Continuing Educations Courses.
- EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) – 36 Continuing Educations Courses.
- CTO (Certified Training Officer) – 24 hours.
- CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) – 3 hours (re-cert).
- Bloodborne Pathogens – 4 hours (re-cert).
- NIMS (Nation Incident Management System) – Classes 200 (4 hours) and 800 (3 hours).
Telecommunicator III:
- When employee has at least 5 years of experience and has completed the following continuing education courses/hours, Grade 70 will be applied:
- EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) – 72 Continuing Educations Courses.
- EFD (Emergency Fire Dispatch) – 36 Continuing Educations Courses.
- CTO (Certified Training Officer) – 12 Continuing Education Courses.
- CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) – 3 hours (re-cert).
- Bloodborne Pathogens – 4 hours (re-cert).
- NIMS (Nation Incident Management System) – Classes 300 (21 hours) and 400 (15 hours).
- Communications Center Supervisor (APCO) – 24 hours.
Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, Motor Vehicle Records driver license check, as well as submit to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing. A criminal background check must be completed by the County of Robeson for potential applicants.
