Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) - School-Based

Position Overview
The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides school-based physical therapy services to students with disabilities under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. This position supports students' access to the educational environment by implementing therapy plans aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and applicable state and federal guidelines.

Position Overview

This position supports students' access to the educational environment by implementing therapy plans aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and applicable state and federal guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Implement physical therapy interventions as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist
- Provide direct services in various school environments (classroom, therapy space, playground, and community settings as needed)
- Support student mobility, positioning, strength, and functional participation in educational activities
- Assist with the use and monitoring of adaptive equipment and assistive technology
- Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and support staff to promote student progress
- Participate in IEP meetings as requested and provide input on student progress
- Maintain accurate documentation, service logs, and progress monitoring data in compliance with district and state requirements
- Travel between assigned schools to provide services
- Associate's Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
- Current Tennessee Physical Therapy Assistant licensure
- Ability to travel between multiple school sites
- Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred
- Understanding of school-based therapy services and IEP implementation
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to implement therapy plans under supervision
- Knowledge of safe student handling, positioning, and mobility support
- Ability to lift, transfer, and position students
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and physical activity
- Ability to work across multiple school environments
- This position serves students across multiple school sites within the district
- Work is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist in accordance with state regulations
- Evaluation is conducted in accordance with district policies and procedures
