We’re looking for a dependable, energetic Cafeteria Aide who enjoys working around students, works well with a team, and takes pride in maintaining a safe and sanitary food service environment.
Position Summary
The Cafeteria Aide assists with daily food service operations, including preparing and serving food, maintaining cleanliness throughout the cafeteria and lunchroom, and supporting overall kitchen safety and sanitation procedures. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, values cleanliness and organization, and thrives in a school setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing and setting up serving lines, trays, and utensils
- Serve meals at appropriate temperatures and maintain food safety standards
- Clean tables, equipment, kitchen areas, and lunchroom between and after serving periods
- Support food preparation under the direction of the Food Services Manager
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and sanitize equipment and surfaces
- Stock food items in refrigerators, cabinets, and storage areas
- Maintain accurate temperature logs for food storage and service
- Distribute after-school snacks and support supplemental food programs
- Follow all federal, state, and local food safety guidelines
- Attend required trainings and meetings
- Perform other duties assigned by the Food Services Manager
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain required Pennsylvania clearances:
- Act 34 (Criminal History)
- Act 114 (FBI Fingerprinting)
- Act 151 (Child Abuse Clearance)
- Act 168 (Employment History Review)
- Ability to obtain a negative TB skin test, as required by PA School Code
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Basic food service experience preferred
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in a busy cafeteria environment
Work Schedule & Important Employment Notes
- Hours: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Monday–Friday, only when school is in session
- This role does not typically qualify for unemployment benefits during school breaks due to the “Reasonable Assurance” clause of PA Unemployment Compensation Law
- Work may vary based on school needs, building requirements, or weather-related changes
