Overview
RobertKent Galleries is seeking a motivated, resilient, and self-directed Art Sales Representative to join our growing sales team. This role is designed for an individual who thrives in relationship-driven sales, is comfortable with frequent travel, and wants to build a long-term career in the art and design industry.
This position begins with an immersive 3–6 month paid training period, working directly alongside the gallery owner to learn every aspect of our business. Upon completion of training, the Art Sales Representative will independently manage sales trips using our mobile art gallery, traveling up to six weeks per quarter within assigned territories.
Training & Development Phase (3–6 Months)
During the training period, the Art Sales Representative will work closely with the gallery owner and internal team to gain a deep understanding of RobertKent Galleries’ sales process, offerings, and client base. Responsibilities include:
- Shadowing the gallery owner in sales appointments, client meetings, and occasionally traveling on sales trips
- Making outbound sales calls, including cold calls, warm leads, and follow-ups with existing clients
- Assisting with scheduling and managing the owner’s travel calendars and appointments
- Learning our fine art and custom framing offerings in depth
- Supporting inventory review and sales analysis to inform art and framing selections
- Learning assigned routes, territories, and client profiles
- Assisting with general business operations and administrative support as needed
This phase is designed to prepare the representative to confidently operate independently in the field.
Ongoing Responsibilities (Post-Training)
After completing training, the Art Sales Representative will assume full responsibility for managing their own sales trips and client relationships. Key responsibilities include:
- Traveling independently in the RobertKent Galleries mobile art gallery for approximately six weeks per quarter (3-5 days per travel week)
- Building and maintaining relationships with primarily interior designers within assigned territories
- Setting and managing personal travel schedules, appointments, and daily routes
- Conducting in-person sales presentations and art showings
- Managing all client follow-up before, during, and after trips
- Collaborating with the gallery team to select art and framing for each trip
- Tracking sales activity and maintaining accurate client and sales records
- Representing RobertKent Galleries professionally and consistently in the field
Qualifications & Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- A strong work ethic and self-starter mentality
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Working knowledge of the art and/or interior design industry (professional or academic)
- Ability to travel frequently and be away from home for extended periods (one week or more at a time)
- Comfort with rejection, persistence, and receiving constructive feedback
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Confidence working independently while remaining accountable to a team
- Ability to lift and carry artwork, both small and large (up to 48”x60” framed) without assistance
- Must have a clean driving record and valid driver's license
- Must be over the age of 21
Prior experience in outside sales, relationship-based sales, or the design trade is a plus but not required.
Compensation & Benefits
This is a commission-based sales position with income stability built in.
- Representatives earn compensation through commissions generated from personal sales with a guaranteed base of $40,000 annually
- OTE is $60,000-$80,000 per year
