Robert Wolfe Construction
Gretna, LA Full Time
POSTED ON 10/11/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/8/2027

POSITION SUMMARY

The Commercial Estimator & Project Manager at Robert Wolfe Construction is a client-facing construction professional who estimates the commercial division's projects, manages active jobs alongside the Commercial Division Manager, and builds the owner, architect, engineer, and subcontractor relationships that drive RWC's commercial growth.

ABOUT ROBERT WOLFE CONSTRUCTION

Robert Wolfe Construction is a general contractor based in Gretna, Louisiana, delivering commercial construction, including restaurants, medical offices, and commercial renovations, along with custom homes, residential renovations, historic renovations, home elevations, mitigation, and roofing. For more than 30 years, the company has served businesses and homeowners across the Greater New Orleans area and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Built on integrity, transparency, and quality craftsmanship, RWC is growing its commercial division with a team whose long tenure reflects the company's commitment to building careers, not just filling jobs.

SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Commercial bids go out on time with complete, verified subcontractor pricing, and the Commercial Division Manager is free to lead and grow the division because this person owns commercial estimating and carries a full share of project management.
  • Active projects run on schedule and on budget, owners and clients receive clear and timely updates, and the project manager and superintendent stay aligned through consistent daily communication.
  • RWC's commercial pipeline is growing through stronger relationships with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors, with public bids and design-team referrals adding to the division's backlog.

OBJECTIVES

  • Estimate three to five commercial projects at a time, including restaurants, medical offices, and commercial renovations, from scope review through final bid package.
  • Review each new bid quickly to understand the scope and potential issues, then send complete bid packages to subcontractors and vendors.
  • Walk negotiated renovation projects with RWC leadership and the owner to develop the scope of work to be estimated.
  • Bid hard-bid projects from full construction drawings and specifications, performing material and labor takeoffs, including digital takeoffs, where needed.
  • Answer subcontractor and vendor questions during bidding, check returned pricing for completeness, and assemble the final estimate.
  • Manage two to three active commercial projects at a time, with projects up to approximately $3 million, in partnership with the Commercial Division Manager.
  • Lead owner and client meetings, resolve issues, and keep clients informed throughout each project.
  • Stay in daily contact with the superintendent to keep jobs on schedule, with the superintendent managing day-to-day field execution.
  • Visit jobsites about once a week for estimating walk-throughs, renovation scoping, and client issue resolution.
  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, architects, and engineers that strengthen RWC's bid coverage and referrals.
  • Identify new opportunities during slower periods, including public bids and architect and engineer referrals.

COMPETENCIES

  • Owns both sides of the role, knowing that accurate estimates and well-run projects are what allow RWC's commercial division to grow.
  • Gets up to speed on a new set of drawings quickly, spotting scope gaps and risks before bid packages go out.
  • Represents Robert Wolfe Construction with confidence in front of owners, architects, and engineers, presenting well and communicating clearly in writing and in person.
  • Holds subcontractors to complete pricing and on-time performance while building relationships that make them want to work with RWC.
  • Manages multiple estimates and active projects at the same time without dropping details or deadlines.
  • Works independently and makes sound decisions, keeping the Commercial Division Manager informed without needing to be managed closely.
  • Leads through the superintendent, staying close to field progress through daily communication while trusting the field team to execute.
  • Thinks like a business builder, looking for the next opportunity in public bids and design-team relationships when the schedule allows.
  • Brings a long-term mindset, ready to grow with the division into a lead estimator or senior project manager path.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 7 to 10 years of construction experience in estimating, project management, or a combination of both required, in residential, renovation, or commercial construction; 10 or more years of experience and commercial experience with restaurants, medical offices, or commercial renovations preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and architectural and engineering drawings and experience performing material and labor takeoffs required; digital takeoff experience, such as Bluebeam, preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines at the same time, strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong computer skills required; negotiated-contract and hard-bid experience, public bid experience, and architect and engineer relationships preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required; existing subcontractor and vendor relationships in Southeast Louisiana preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work primarily from RWC's office in Gretna, Louisiana, on a 40-hour weekly schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Must be able to travel to jobsites about once a week in a personal vehicle for estimating walk-throughs, renovation scoping, and client meetings, and accommodate occasional evening or weekend work for clients such as medical offices and businesses that cannot close during the day.
  • Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods performing takeoffs, assembling estimates, and managing project communication and documentation.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Base salary: $100,000 to $120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Health insurance: Health insurance with 50 percent of the cost paid by the company.
  • Retirement: 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Paid time off: 2 weeks PTO
  • Holidays: Eight paid holidays each year: New Year's Day, Mardi Gras, Good Friday, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
  • Eligibility: Benefits and holiday pay begin after a six-month introductory period.
  • Career growth: Long-term career and advancement opportunities, including room to expand into commercial estimating as the company grows.
