What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Counsel position at Robert Walters?
The Role: The General Counsel (GC) is a senior leader within the business and a trusted adviser to the Leadership Team as well as the Group GC and Group Senior Management.
The role plays a central part in supporting the delivery of business strategy, enabling sustainable growth, and ensuring robust governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management across the business.
This is a newly created role and a truly exciting time to join this business. You will take on a hands-on role with a strong commercial focus, encompassing legal leadership. The GC will operate with confidence in a lean, high-growth environment and provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice that enables innovation.
In this GC position you will cover general commercial, corporate, and technology matters. This role will act as a trusted advisor on a wide range of initiatives, including M&A transactions, strategic partnerships, and special projects, ensuring legal risk is managed while enabling business growth and innovation.
The remit spans existing and new ventures including acquisitions, commercial partnerships and new product and service lines. The role requires a large emphasis on adaptability and creativity for special projects and business-driven initiatives which may change. There will be an opportunity to shape the company's future through involvement in transformational business activities.
This role sits within a large national manufacturing business, therefore candidates who have manufacturing, industrial or industry adjacent experience would be well placed to take on this role.
In addition to the above, the following are suggested requirements for the role:
- Qualified lawyer; minimum 6 years' PQE; substantial senior in-house commercial legal experience
- Proven in-house legal experience (can be from a secondment), ideally (but not essential) within an industry adjacent industry (manufacturing, industrial etc).
- Strong ability to provide strategic and practical legal advice, translating complex legal issues into clear business guidance
- Previous M&A experience
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
Strong commercial contracting track record; experience supporting a scaling business and comfortable operating at pace with a lean team
