Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant will maintain the general ledger, research and analyze accounts, prepare journal entries, perform financial analysis, complete governmental reporting, and assist in providing audit documentation. Critical thinking skills, financial aptitude, and precision are essential qualities in this position. Salary is based and skills and experience.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Record daily banking activities, reconcile monthly bank statements, and provide short-term cash flow forecasts.
- Prepare and process the daily accounting activities to maintain the general ledger.
- Analyze account activities and prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare, document and process monthly journal entries.
- Complete month-end close before deadline.
- Reconcile and process 401k and worker’s compensation payments.
- Record/Amortize prepaid expenses.
- Pay monthly insurance invoices.
- Reconcile company credit cards and fuel cards.
- Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures, recommending changes.
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual government filings, as necessary.
- Assist in the research, analysis, and documentation needed for reviewed financials and audits.
- Engage in critical and confidential aspects of accounting. Duties require broad conceptual judgement, initiative and ability to deal with complex accounting transactions and issues.
- Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
- Pays payrolls tax deposits.
- Assist in special projects as necessary.

- Prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
- Microsoft Excel proficiency: must be able to manipulate large sets of data, analyze and prepare concise reports for management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with an all Finance Staff and wide range of company managers, supervisors and employees. Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance (required).
Experience:
a. At least 2-3 years relevant professional experience.
b. Oilfield Services and Construction accounting experience a plus
c. Experience with Viewpoint software (preferred).
Other Requirements:
a. Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and State automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record substantiated by a DMV printout.
b. Completion of a substance abuse screening upon offer of employment.
