About RHA

Robert Hall Architects is a boutique architecture studio based in San Diego. We design multifamily housing, ADUs, custom homes, restaurants, retail, and urban infill projects throughout Southern California.

We believe architecture should not force a choice between design quality and practical execution. Our work combines strong design, technical rigor, and clear communication to help projects move successfully from concept through construction.

Our culture is built around five core values:

  • Craft
  • Joyful Service
  • Team
  • Ownership
  • Relentless Improvement

About the Role

We're looking for a Designer / Job Captain with 4-6 years of professional experience who is ready to take the next step in their career. Must know Revit.

You'll work directly with the Principal Architect and Design Lead while helping lead projects through design, permitting, and construction.

Unlike larger firms where responsibilities are often narrowly defined, you'll gain hands-on experience across every phase of practice. This is an opportunity to take ownership of meaningful work, accelerate your professional growth, and help shape a growing studio.

We're looking for someone who thinks critically, solves problems proactively, communicates well, and takes pride in producing high-quality work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop architectural designs and construction documents
  • Coordinate structural, civil, MEP, and other consultants
  • Prepare permit and construction document sets
  • Assist with zoning analysis, code research, and permitting
  • Participate in client and consultant meetings
  • Support construction administration activities
  • Help maintain drawing standards and quality control
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and tasks

Qualifications

Required

  • 4-6 years of architectural experience
  • Strong residential and ADU experience
  • Proficiency in Revit
  • Experience preparing permit and construction document sets
  • Experience coordinating consultants
  • Understanding of California residential codes
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Preferred

  • Multifamily experience
  • Construction administration experience
  • Progress toward architectural licensure

Benefits & Perks

  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Paid holidays, PTO, and sick time
  • Hybrid work flexibility
  • Half-day Fridays
  • Architectural licensure support, including exam reimbursement
  • Professional development and industry association memberships
  • Business development incentive program
  • Direct mentorship from firm leadership

Why Join RHA?

  • Work directly with firm leadership
  • Gain exposure to every phase of practice
  • Take ownership of meaningful project responsibilities
  • Diverse project experience across residential, multifamily, restaurant, and retail work
  • Flexible, collaborative, low-ego culture
  • Clear opportunities for growth and advancement
