GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):

The Instructional Technology Specialist (ITS) will support teachers in designing, implementing, and 

assessing students in ways that infuse digital literacy and computer science standards, 21st century skills and are aligned with curricula and state standards. The ITS provides support through planning,

modeling, co-teaching, training, and data analysis across all content areas. The ITS will also support administrators in technology-related projects. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Appropriate DESE teaching license (i.e. Instructional Technology Specialist Teacher)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and technical communication skills
  • Understanding of how to design and implement technology-enhanced learning experiences addressing content standards and Digital Literacy Computer Science standards.
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Effective time management, organizational skills, and prioritization of work to meet the needs of the users.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):


Coach Effective Use of Instructional Technology


  • Model best practices in technology integration.
  • Collaborate with teachers to compose effective technology-infused, content-based lessons, and support them as they implement the lessons in their classrooms. This collaboration may include opportunities to co-teach. 
  • Engage in continual learning to deepen content and pedagogical knowledge in technology integration and current and emerging technologies necessary to effectively implement the standards. 
  • Serve as a liaison between teachers and school/district technology initiatives by providing support for school-based implementation. 
  • Organize and facilitate professional development opportunities that focus on the effective use of technology to improve teaching and learning
  • Provide instructional staff with the essential support needed to complete technology-based instructional management and productivity functions.
  • Support content and Digital Literacy Computer Science standards through collaboration, coaching, and lesson and unit planning to enhance teaching and learning. May teach classes around these subjects.
  • Create learning resources and tutorials for students and teachers to support technology integration
  • Assist in the development of technology-infused collaborative projects that assist students in building understanding and problem-solving

Other Responsibilities


    • Teach students digital literacy, computer science content, and/or other related courses as needed.
    • Support administrators, staff and teachers in utilizing data technology to collect and analyze student and school, and District data. 
  • Create and facilitate professional development workshops and resources to support school and District learning, using a “train-the-trainer” model that empowers teachers to build capacity, share expertise, and access instructional technology tools independently.
  • Maintain and gather Digital Privacy Agreements (DPAs) and ensure compliance with District policies, Massachusetts Student Data Privacy Alliance (SDPA) requirements, and state and federal regulations (e.g., FERPA, COPPA, CIPA).
  • Vet, analyze, and make recommendations for digital learning tools, subscriptions, and software purchases in alignment with curriculum and instructional goals; regularly review and evaluate existing tools and platforms to assess impact, usage, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with instructional needs.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to support, manage, and optimize the use of instructional software and network resources to support quality teaching and learning.
  • Troubleshoot basic software, hardware, and connectivity problems common in digital learning environments.
  • Consult with the school principals on School Improvement Plan goals and other topics that support and facilitate the implementation of the District technology plan and strategic plan.
  • Complete any other related duties and responsibilities as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Work Environment:  

Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, however there may be occasions for before and/or after school meetings and workshops.


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear.  The teacher is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel.  The teacher is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.  Must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building.
