What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Maintenance/Plumber position at Roanoke Rapids Graded School District?
Nature of Work
Under general supervision, this individual performs skilled plumbing work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water and waste disposal systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work involves performing a variety of repair or replacement functions related to plumbing, minor electrical work related to hot water heaters, disposals, and dishwashers. Work also involves reviewing district facilities to maintain system adherence to all related codes and regulations. Work is performed in accordance with accepted practices, and the employee is expected to resolve most problems independently. The employee must exercise strong customer service, independent judgment, and initiative in performing assigned duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Repairs and replaces broken water lines; unstops sewer lines and drains; and clears commode and sink drains
- Performs maintenance and installation functions associated with all water systems equipment
- Replaces and repairs hot water tanks; repairs garbage disposals; repairs circulating pumps; and replaces booster heaters
- Repairs shower valves, shutoff valves, fountain coolers, and mixing valves
- Repairs and rebuilds Delaney and Sloan valves
- Ensures the safe and efficient operation of fixtures, apparatus, and other elements of water distribution
- Provides necessary reports as required by the State
- Responsible for ensuring that outside utilities are located before digging or trenching is performed at sites within Roanoke Rapids Graded School District
- Performs quality control reviews to ensure the work is completed in accordance with defined standard procedures
Additional Job Responsibilities
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as general maintenance and/or plumber as assigned
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record
