The Opportunity
- We are hiring one exceptional intern to work closely with the Roan team in person to help design and build our data infrastructure and internal technology platform.
- This is a high-ownership role, not a shadowing or research-only internship. You will ship systems used daily by investors and operators, directly impacting proprietary sourcing, investment workflows, and portfolio value creation.
- Our explicit goal is for this internship to convert into a full-time post-graduation offer for the right candidate. We view this role as a long-term investment in someone who wants to build at the intersection of data, software, and growth equity.
- You should be excited to take vague problems and turn them into working systems without being told exactly how to do it.
What You’ll Work On
You’ll partner directly with the investment team and interact with Roan’s portfolio companies to build and refine a data platform that serves real-world needs.
Projects may include:
- Building and maintaining scalable data pipelines that ingest information from APIs, internal systems, and external datasets
- Designing clean, structured data models for company profiles, market mapping, and investment workflows
- Developing internal tools, dashboards, and lightweight applications that support proprietary sourcing
- Applying AI and automation to research, data enrichment, and workflow acceleration
- Interfacing with portfolio company teams (operators, RevOps, finance, product) to understand how data systems are actually used in practice
- Iterating on internal and portfolio-facing systems so they can be adapted precisely to portfolio company needs as those businesses scale
What We’re Looking For
Required
- Strong problem-solving mindset and comfort operating in ambiguous environments
- Experience with Python and/or SQL
- Comfort building and owning end-to-end tools (data → logic → interface), even if the UI is lightweight
- Basic familiarity with web or application development (e.g., internal tools, simple frontends, or APIs)
- Ability to clean, structure, and reason about imperfect or messy data
- Working knowledge of Git and collaborative development workflows
- Clear written communication and an ownership mentality
- Ability to work in person in Charlotte, NC
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Experience with APIs, workflow automation, or modern data stacks
- Exposure to BI or dashboarding tools
- Familiarity with AI tools, LLMs, or data enrichment workflows
- Interest in B2B software, data platforms, or investing
