What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Advocate position at Roadway?
Roadway is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Housing Advocate to join our Housing Stabilization Services team. This role is key in supporting individuals with disabilities or disabling conditions who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability. The Housing Advocate helps clients access and retain safe, stable housing through personalized advocacy, education, and support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist clients in understanding their housing rights and navigating rental processes.
- Advocate with landlords, housing authorities, and support agencies on behalf of clients.
- Provide support with completing applications, gathering documentation, and attending housing appointments.
- Help clients develop housing goals and action plans tailored to their individual needs.
- Support tenants in resolving issues that may affect housing stability, including lease violations or landlord disputes.
- Educate clients on housing responsibilities, lease agreements, and tenant rights.
- Maintain accurate documentation and uphold DHS compliance standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; degree or coursework in social services, human services, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with individuals facing housing instability, mental health challenges, or disabilities.
- Strong advocacy, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of housing laws, tenant rights, and the Minnesota Housing Stabilization Services program is a plus.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an office and center-based setting.
