The Sign Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of sign production, including customer service, inside sales, work order processing, design, fabrication, assembly, and quality control. This role will lead a team to ensure timely and efficient completion of sign projects while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment. The Supervisor must be proficient with sign-making equipment and design software, capable of troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.

This role will lead a team to ensure timely and efficient completion of sign projects while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment. The Supervisor must be proficient with sign-making equipment and design software, capable of troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
Essential Functions
- Manage inside sales, respond to customer and internal sales inquiries, and process phone and email orders.
- Review, interpret, and process sign orders using internal systems such as Vista by Viewpoint.
- Assign daily tasks to sign shop personnel and oversee progress to maintain efficient production flow.
- Design and layout sign graphics using platforms such as Adobe Illustrator and/or Flexi Design.
- Operate sign production equipment including digital printers (HP 365), plotters (Roland), laminators, and squeeze roll machines.
- Fabricate and assemble signs using materials such as reflective sheeting, aluminum, plywood, and composites.
- Apply vinyl graphics, lettering, logos, and overlays with accuracy and precision.
- Conduct quality control inspections to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to specifications.
- Manage inventory of materials and supplies; order stock as needed and minimize material waste.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and control systems.
- Interpret work orders, design files, and regulatory standards to produce compliant signage.
- Provide coaching and direction to sign shop team members to promote teamwork and accountability.
- Ensure daily housekeeping and cleanliness of the shop area.
- Coordinate sign installation needs with Project Managers.
- Lead daily safety meetings and ensure team adherence to safety protocols.
- Perform equipment troubleshooting and assist in minor repairs.
- Complete additional duties as assigned to support team and operational goals.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in sign production or a related field.
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with design software such as Adobe Illustrator and/or Flexi Design.
- Experience operating sign-making equipment, including plotters, laminators, and digital printers.
- Knowledge of materials used in sign manufacturing (e.g., vinyl, aluminum, composite).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to detect imperfections or errors in production.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods (up to 14 hours/day).
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the shift.
- Noise level is moderate to high; hearing protection may be required.
- Work is performed in a shop environment with exposure to industrial tools, equipment, and materials.
- Must pass a background check and drug screen.
- Must have reliable transportation and excellent attendance.
- Required to wear safety equipment including work boots with safety toe, hard hat, safety glasses, and safety vest.
