Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the operations team, including hiring, training, performance management, and coaching.
- Oversee end-to-end brokerage execution: load tendering, carrier selection, rate negotiation, dispatch, tracking, updates, and issue resolution.
- Build and maintain strong carrier relationships to secure capacity, negotiate competitive rates, and ensure consistent service levels.
- Ensure all loads are updated and tracked in the TMS with accurate statuses, documents, and notes to support visibility and clean invoicing.
- Monitor operational KPIs (on-time pickup/delivery, tender acceptance, margin by lane/customer, carrier performance, service failures) and drive continuous improvement.
- Partner with sales/account management to implement customer SOPs, launch new accounts, and support RFP/pricing strategies.
- Proactively troubleshoot service issues (delays, equipment problems, claims) and communicate clearly with customers and carriers.
- Own process documentation and SOPs to standardize workflows, improve efficiency, and support scaling of the operation.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state transportation regulations (FMCSA/DOT), carrier vetting requirements, and internal risk guidelines.
- Collaborate with finance to reduce accessorial leakage, minimize disputes, and improve billing/collections accuracy.
- Analyze market conditions and carrier capacity trends to guide pricing, routing, and procurement decisions.
Qualifications
- 3–7 years of experience in freight brokerage, logistics, or transportation operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of truckload/LTL brokerage operations, carrier networks, and transportation market dynamics.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and drive accountability to KPIs.
- Proficiency with TMS platforms, load boards, and standard office tools (Excel/Sheets, email, and communication tools).
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with both carriers and customers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable with data-driven decision making.
- Knowledge of FMCSA/DOT regulations and carrier compliance standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or equivalent experience preferred.
