Job Duties
- Oversee SID inspection activities to ensure adherence to specifications such as periodic inspections of storm sewers, sub-local road construction projects and approaches.
- Check existing project conditions and recommend design changes as needed.
- May review and approve or indicate additional requirements regarding permit applications, preparations, road improvement plans for consulting engineers for municipalities within the county and other plans submitted for review.
- Plans and supervises the activities of engineering inspectors or technicians involved in the construction of new local roads, including evaluation and resolution of construction concerns.
- Attend meetings related to new developments.
- Coordinates construction activities with other RCOC departments, divisions, contractors, etc.
- Responsible for processing written documents and reports related to road development activities.
- Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel on current or anticipated projects involving technical or inspection personnel.
- Has contact with the public, consulting engineers, municipal officials, attorneys, etc.
- Review and approve, or specify additional requirements relative to permit applications, preparation of documents for right-of-way acquisitions and road improvement plans.
- Advises technicians or inspectors on specific project requirements.
- Reviews completed improvement plans and other work assignments for quality, accuracy, completeness and compliance.
- Completes the duties of SID staff technicians or inspectors as workloads may dictate.
- Must perform duties in a professional and courteous manner to promote a positive image of the Road Commission for Oakland County.
- Requires a daily schedule that supports RCOC hours of operation.
- Regular and predictable onsite job attendance is an essential function of this position.
- This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible technical experience in surveying, road design, project inspections and construction/engineering related calculations and activities.
- Experience in coordinating or supervising support staff employees, or similar supervisory experience is preferred.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to work well with the public.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state of Michigan driver license.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States and possess a valid Driver's License.
