What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Project Manager position at RMT Construction & Development Group, LLC?
We’re looking for a Commercial Project Manager to join our Richmond office. At RMT, PMs typically manage 3–4 projects at a time, ranging from complex renovations and tenant upfits to K-12 schools, higher education facilities, and new construction for some of Virginia’s most recognized clients.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll lead projects from preconstruction through closeout, working closely with clients, design teams, and trade partners. You’ll also be part of a close-knit, collaborative, and fun team that values innovation, professional growth, and delivering outstanding results.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multiple projects concurrently, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
- Oversee all project phases, scheduling, contracts, change management, RFIs, submittals, and closeout.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, clients, and subcontractors.
- Manage and mentor Assistant Project Managers and Project Engineers.
- Uphold RMT’s culture of accountability, collaboration, and client focus.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of progressive project management experience in commercial construction.
- Strong background in renovations, tenant improvements, institutional (K-12, higher ed), and/or ground-up construction.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong financial and contractual acumen.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
